  • Sorry, That Offer Has Expired

Just got an email from a customer using the Mac version. About 10 years ago we were forced to discontinue our Mac version when it became obvious that sales were never going to justify the costs of developing on that platform.

Since it wasn't their fault, we gave all of our Mac customers a chance to buy a brand new Windows license for the same price as an update, about half price.

That offer stayed in place a couple of years. Some took advantage offer, others did not.

Today's customer just emailed us asking to get the offer. It expired 8 years ago but he had scanned a copy of a 10-year-old price list and attached the image to the email to support his argument that he should get the long-expired offer.

Of course he omitted the part where it said "Prices are subject to change without notice."

So he's just a 'little' late with his request, you'll still honor the old price of course as he's a 'good customer.'

Somehow I doubt you've heard the last from this one...

I disagree... I think you should honor the deal, and give him a Windows license.

For the version which was available 8 years ago...

I love the selective memories some people have. He saved the stupid price list, why didn't he renew 8 years ago?!

But I agree with the above, give him the version that was available 8 years ago.

On the flip side, his keeping stuff skills are to be commended.

The SM at my old DaddyJim's was a firm believer in this philosophy >_< He figured that, if they had coupons that were a decade old, they MUST be long-time, die-hard fans...

Uh, possibly, yes, but it's much more likely that they just dug them up when they were cleaning up for a garage sale or something...

Oh yes, honor the deal - but with the technology of the period. His own fault for trying to cheat.

We nickname people like that "very old customers." Anyone who opens the conversation with "I'm a very old customer of yours" is usually someone who has ordered something over 10 years ago and nothing since. It's a pattern.

A in intriguing thought. But you wouldn't believe the number of people who demand that we do just that. They're still running DOS and don't need any of that newfangled stuff.

Of course they want it for free or a hefty discount.

But alas, that version comes on floppy disks and won't run on Windows 7, which is what the guy has.

Heh. The scanned copy had somewhat ragged three hole punch holes.

No problem. Give him the old version for 50% off. Then give him the upgrade to the newest version for another 50% off.

So therefore he will be receiving the newest version for 100% of the purchase price...
