    My Story
Saturday afternoon/night I was back in the trenches of the lumber department, first time since Tuesday.

Early into my shift a customer asked for help loading his truck, so I got volunteered. I helped his son load his lumber to the top of his SUV roof rack (seriously?) and, of course about half of it wouldn't fit.

So he asked if he could leave it till Sunday, so we left a note on the cart. This shouldn't be a story on this site, but then he started bitching that we "needed to put 'do no disturb' on that cart" because he was going to come in screaming Sunday if the wood had been disturbed.

    Day off Story
So later I'm telling this story to 2 coworkers who tell me all about a customer from Thursday.

Guy came in and needed 6x6's 12 feet long. He and his son watched while my coworkers pulled them and loaded a cart.

Customer then informed coworkers that last time he bought 6x6's "we cut them in half on our saw"

Coworkers tell him that our store has never cut 6x6's, especially on our big saw, that orange competitor does that , but not us.

So he starts bitching and demands a manager. Zone manager tells coworkers to cut them by hand, which they do, then have to reload the guys cart.

Now the guy wants a manager again because he needs a $150 gift card for his troubles. Zone Manager shoots him down.

Well now he needs help loading his truck, so coworker goes out to help him.

Few minutes later the guy is back inside yelling at the manager that coworker took "20 minutes" to get outside (try 5) and he has an attitude problem, and a smart mouth, and he required a $150 gift card for his trouble, again was shot down by zone manager.

(Apparently coworker told the guy off, but not in a ridiculous manor).

Friday morning the guy's son was back in complaining to management about the day before, and he still needed a $150 gift card.

Store management shot him down again (3rd time not a charm) and he is apparently now taking his complaint to corporate.

If I hear any updates I'll let you know.

I wonder how he arrived at that particular total for a gift card. The cost to finish a particular project, perhaps?

Didn't want to get his manicure ruined? Hell... I can saw a bit of lumber... don't much enjoy it, but I can do it. And I certainly won't charge $150 to do it, either.

...dude, the FRACK? What kinda person goes in and specifically asks for 6x6 12' long boards and promptly wants them cut down to 6'? Buy the 6 footers or 8 footers and be done with it. Cheese on Bread.

That or invest in a circular saw or Chop Saw (guess which of my favourite tools my parents are selling, if you said the Chop Saw you win a cookie!).
Now a member of that alien race called Management.

Yeah, you see that right. Pink. Harness.

My guess is that the customer has a saw, but didn't feel like cutting them down (we don't stock 6 footers, and he can get two 6's for each 12') as it's a pain to cut them, and quite messy.

We get a lot of people who ask us to cut things for them simply because they don't feel like cutting them at home.

Smells like a scam to me too.

I can understand wanting them cut there. A friend of mine built his bead using nothing but a skill saw for cuts. Most of the cuts were done at the lumber store. He, however, didn't deliberately buy longer than normal boards. I also vote scam, or possibly just entitled idiot, especially since everything needed a $150 card - not even just "a gift card".

seriously, as rw pointed out, there was an easy solution, but we know the story...

Asked about it the other day.

Nothing has progressed beyond the original complaints with management. That doesn't mean he didn't complain to corporate but if they've asked management about it they've never spoken to the co-workers who were involved with it. My ZM was occupied with a purse being stolen by an employee the other day so I didn't bring it up.

However the customer did complain that a co-worker "busted a bag of concrete by throwing it into his truck" when in actuality it was just some debris stuck in the corners where the bags are folder over.

I hadn't heard about that part of his complaint before.
