In Finland you can generally take small thin clear bags for free - they're meant for the fruit&veg section but are also available at the checkout. The larger and much stronger bags are charged for, but they are durable enough to be reused several times.

The trick, of course, is to remember to have some with you when you go shopping. Since I don't carry anything to the office, but often want to go shopping on the way home...

Chromatix, have you looked at getting the bags that roll up so you can stick them in your pocket? THey're reusable ones obviously

As far as the fruit and veg bags go, we use them primarily for meat. However for safety reasons, we cannot keep rolls on the checkouts.

The problem is that my pockets are already full of wallets, keys, etc. If there was space, I could just stuff one of the plastic bags in there.

(Yes, wallets plural. One for cards and Euro currency, the other for travel documents and British currency. Since my "travel documents" include my Helsinki travelcard, I take both everywhere.)

I have a reusable bag that folds up fairly tiny, about the size of my phone, and I pretty much always have it with me, the only problem is that I usually buy more than one bag of groceries at a time and I tend to forget to bring extras

There's a regular who very often comes to my till (she has the same first name as me - first person I ever met who did) and she's a nice lady, but every, every time she has paid and gathered her things together she always takes an extra bag. I've no idea why.

Yes, she found out on Monday that she could keep her job, thank goodness.

I hate when customers complain about me IDing them and then not selling them alcohol. I always tell them that I'm not going to lose my job just so they can have a fun night of drinking.
