If the customer doesn't mind using the canned stuff, most stores have a few cans of Israeli tahini (Osem or Telma brands) next to the matzos and gefilte fish that have been there since the Flood.

You're in AUSTIN and she pitched a fit???? Gee, I guess going all the way to the Whole Foods flagship store would just be TOO much for the specshul snowflake. Mmmm cheesesteak soup.....
I've got a pretty good idea of what the small stores generally carry and anytime I need something weirder than curry paste I go to Central Market/Whole Foods. But there's my critical thinking at work.

I fail to see how "I've shopped here for a long time" equates to "you should have what I want even though I've never actually purchased it here before"I don't go in for ancient wisdom
I don't believe just 'cause ideas are tenacious

Tahini? Never heard of it. It's not in the HEB near the Island that I can remember. But then the HEB there isn't exactly what I would call the best stocked.
Okay, it's either that or someone keeps getting to the Indian Food section and cleans it out before I can get there.

Quoth grokit View PostIs this a small shop you work in? I'm not familiar with the inner voodoo workings of your average shop, but I'd hate to know how much work has to be done to keep track of products, their stock and all the rest without it being on computer somewhere. And if it's on computer somewhere then some sort of access could be made for the service desk.
But expecting logic can be a bit much!
Some have yes, but again accessing that information isn't always easy. It depends on the company and the software they're using. Should it be easy for Service Desk personnel to look up information like that? Yes, but for some reason Grocers haven't invested in that kind of system yet.
I'm sure some companies are working on it, (including mine), but not yet.

Gotta love SC logic. By the time she stood and bitched/whined about NOT having it, she could have gone to the organic store and had it.
What is this magical stuff that made her go crazy? I've never heard of it.."So, if you wanna put places like that outta business, just stop being so rock-chewingly stupid." ~ Raudf, 9/19/13

We do not have the magical computer system that any associate can type stuff in and see if we have it, etc. At best you can pull up a huge list in green text of all the grocery items for ordering purposes but no search it, and this is only accessible by store management and the grocery manger and asst. mgr.
However, the chain that has a store across the street has touchscreen price scanners and terminals across the sales floor where you can actually type in product info and it will search to see if they have it. I believe it also shows what aisle it is in for non-seasonal stuff.
Then again, they actually invested in modern up-to-date POS systems and upgraded when it made economic sense unlike my company which uses somethign they wrote in the early 90's. Whit is this "touchscreen" thing you say?

The main uses of it that I know of are hummus and baba ganouj. (Well, that and keeping hippies happy, but I'm old-fashioned and don't care for the taste anyhow).
