  • Delayed Stupidity X 2

There would have been no suck at all, had I just been told the one cup is filled with ice, like %99.9999 percent of people that just want ice. OR even just vocalized his wondering of the price BEFORE entering his pin.

Today I had a wonderful couple comes up sets two drinks on the counter in the nice foam cups that keep things cold. Asks for cigarettes, swipes credit card, enters pin. Then asks why the cigarettes cost so much because "I used a coupon for a free drink!",

SC: "Why did those cigarettes cost so much I had a free Drink!"
    me: "You got two drinks."
SC: "NO THIS IS JUST ICE!!!, you can't charge me for ice!"
me: "Oh im sorry I wasn't aware I thought it was a drink" (considering I CAN'T see through foam!)
AT this point I'm thinking GREAT, he used a credit card and sale was already completed, which begins a really crap process of refunding the card for that drink and charging for the ice. Also, I don't like when people get shitty with me because of a mistake they started.
SC: "Your really going to charge me it is only .15!"
me: "We charge .29 for ice"
    SC: "The sign says .15!!!!!"
me:"What sign? MY computer says .29"
SC - storms over to fountain and looks for sign that doesn't exist
SCGF:"He is probably thinking of somewhere else"

I just go for silence for rest of transaction, then i realized I never charged for the ICE I was so annoyed with having to go the long process to do a credit refund.

So to recap, I found amusement when SC stated to me that Ice should be free and I said it is .29 and he claims the sign only says .15, thats right. Um HE KNEW we charged .15 for the ice, false price but establishes ice is most definitely not free as he tried to claim during the first mention of paying for ice.

It is up to me how hard to follow rules, if your a regular who needs an extra cup for something, or your daughter just got her finger slammed in the car door ICE is free, IF your some jerk that demands I must follow your will, ice is gonna cost. Also, im sorry, you can't walk out with 7 extra cups just because at some point someone told you that it was ok. That really offsets any of the little profit we just made by selliong you a pot of coffee for 1.69
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

I used to work at a Circle K, and the way they inventoried fountain drinks by the cups. So if you used a cup, even for ice, you got charged full price. Heard a lot of bitching about that, but I hated all the customers there anyway.

Isn't the majority of cost associated to the cup? 29 cents for ice seems pretty generous to me. And yes, taking 7 cups means I will CHARGE you for 7 cups. People always assume things are free or at least a lot cheaper than they really are.

We give away child sized cups of ice or water free, but larger costs 50 cents. We charged full drink price for a while, and the bitching was amazing.

At least it drove away those vile suv folks who came through twice a day wanted an extra large foam cup of ice for each of the 8 people in the car. >.< And they never bought anything.

We charge for ice, but not for cups. There is a list of the prices of ice per cup size on the pop fountain itself. I've lost track pf how many people will walk in and say "Do you charge for ice?" Yes, yes we do. READ THE SIGNS!

Did anyone else notice that the SC was making a big deal over 14 cents?

Yes, I did. 14 cents isn't that serious. However, 25 cents and up can be worth worrying about when you live on a shoestring budget.

I can understand why it costs $0.29 to charge for ice.

Not only is it the cost of the cups, it's also the cost of the icemaker and the electricity being used to run it. Cups aren't free, the maintenance on the icemaker isn't free, and neither is electricity.

Given all of that, $0.29 is quite reasonable for a cup of ice. I'd pay it anyday.. or I'd pay another $1 and buy a full bag of ice.

On the cups costing the store money, every Pilot (chain of truck stops) I've been to has a sign on the soda machine "Your cup of ice free, our cup of ice 50 cents" (can't recall the exact price, but if you use one of their cups you do have to pay for it - bring your own mug and the ice is free).

Truck stop chains also have refills (i.e. your own mug) cheaper than a cup of soda (usually - Pilot is $1.09 for a refill, but for the summer the 44 ounce cup is $1 on special).
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

My work cafeteria charges for the cup, but not the ice. They use the foam cups, too, so when I just get ice I leave the lid off until I get to the counter, so they can see what's in it. The cup costs 5 cents (10 for the insulated paper coffee cups). Only if you buy a bottled/can drink and get a cup of ice to go with it, they don't charge for the cup.

The 7-11 across the street from me has a sign on the soda machine that says something to the effect of "please don't throw away cups or lids, they are inventory."

7-11 does this too. It's like 89cents at most stores (in salt lake at least) for anything smaller than a swimming pool. Even Chevron now does refill prices.
