I was reading through some of the newer posts here and it reminded me of one of my own stories.
There's a male that comes in, we'll call him S for fun, that agitates the living crap out of us at the desk. He'll make some odd requests, and calls me and B, Baby doll or sugar. He's tried to hug her, he's learned to stay arms width from me.
Anyway, he used to get the lowest rate (48.00). That's USUALLY reserved for people who stay 5 or more days. We did that during the winter months, because we were told "go as low as you can, to keep us near full. An Empty hotel looks bad."
He came in a few weeks ago, and I'd canceled his room and sold it, because he'd given me a declined card, and I held the room til 1am. When I do paperwork, I have to cancel any declined cards & no shows, or I'm not getting paid.
I sell his room to a very nice walk in guest, and as he's filling out the form for the room and asking the usual questions (what time is breakfast.. can I get a wake up call..), S walks in.
S: "I want to check in."
M: "You'll have to wait a second hon, I'm checking him in first."
S: "I stay here all the time. I want checked in."
M: "I'm sorry, he was here first, wait your turn."
The guest hands the paper back and thanks me, taking his key. He didn't leave quite then, and stalled around buying a soda and candy, to keep an eye on S for me I suppose.
S: *comes to the counter* "I want my room."
M: "Sorry. I canceled your room and it's already been bought and occupied. You know the company policy."
S: "But you can't do that. I left a card!"
M: "One that declined. You were told by the desk clerk and manager, if you left me with a declined card and didn't pick up your room by the time I did paperwork, I'd drop it."
S: "This is bad business! You give me a room now!" *slams fists on desk.*
M: "I can't. I'm sold out. I have no rooms to give."
S: *grumbles and goes outside*
Now, the first guest leaves and I assume S has too. Nope. He calls from his truck, attempting (terribly) to disguise his voice and get a room. Grr.
He's also one of those guests that you hate to deal with. The day he gets put on DNR, we're throwing a party.
**edit**
Also, two short blurbs from my fellow auditor (He works when I don't
) about last night:
Yay, someone tried to bribe me! It's been awhile and, gods, how I love a reason to be stubborn. The guy, repeatedly, wanted to give me personally $45 dollars to just let him sleep in a room for a few hours. I repeatedely said, "THe rate is x plus tax, plus a $50 deposit if you pay cash." Finally, I said, "No matter how... many times you ask, I'm going to give you the same answer."
Wow: a guy calls me a little after eleven, checking for rooms for Saturday, and I say we're sold out, but say that he might want to check back tomorrow to see if anything has opened up. Sure enough, a little after midnight, the guy calls back. I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.
