My husband's old lab ate an incredible array of things, beginning in puppy days with whatever drywall he could reach when he stuck his little nose between the bars of his crate.

My favorite was the year a string of Christmas lights disappeared from the tree. The family had no idea what happened until the dog pooped rainbows. What gets me is that the dog ate the first light and decided it was so delicious that he needed to eat every last one of them, one by one...

The first 6 months we had her, aka "The Puppy" (she was 11 weeks old when we got her & we have 2 other dogs, so she will always be "The Puppy"), she ate - and I mean ATE - 7 sets of Venetian Blinds. Basically all the blinds of all the windows in our house, including the one set we replaced, until we figured out that she thinks they're tasty! Our vet hates us now ;(

Now that we've wised up and don't have blinds on any of the windows. she merely eats .... the couch, the carpet, the bedspread, shoes, the table, purses, and anything that isn't nailed down. According to the vet, she does "not" have a problem, she's just "lonely" (I work from home and home school the kids, there is someone here 24/7, just how is she lonely?????)

Your vet is broken, get a new one.

However, as to your dog, does she get enough exercise and outdoor time? She could be restless.

        ^-.-^

...What sort of food, exactly, were you leaving out that the dog was afraid that the food might eat him...?

Epic. So glad I work in an office by myself. I'd be getting strange looks from coworkers about now. Growing up, we had a lab who'd grab stuff off the kitchen counters and eat it. She'd eat entire loaves of bread, even as a puppy. Because she was well trained, well exercised, and well fed, she wouldn't eat strange things, but she would lay on anything soft.

When she was about 3, we noticed bald spots on her elbows and chest, so we took her to the vet. The vet said it's because she's laying on hard surfaces. She's long gone now, but we still don't know whether it was the couch or the beds that were too hard for her. :-P

Have a puppy now (posted about him a few times in Off Topic) who's turned into an eating machine. We've had him for 3 weeks now, and thus far, he's eaten:

1 Wiimote (destroyed the power button and IR lens. IR lens is gone, as is the front of the controller, the rest still works, surprisingly.)
1 Wiimote condom (Don't tell me you don't call those silicone covers condoms too. :-P)
2 pairs of the wife's shoes
1 full stick of butter, wrapper and all
2 tennis balls, shell, fuzz, everything piece by piece
1 full roll of toilet paper (Got home one day, and the toilet paper in one of the bathrooms was just gone.)
              various other smaller items.
              Coworker: Distro of choice?
              Me: Gentoo.
Coworker: Ahh. A Masochist. I thought so.

I have a cat who chews on anything neoprene, foam or solid. Yet he ignores latex of silicone rubbers. Go figure.

Every been lonely in a crowd? Puppy might be lonely because no one is paying attention to him. Perhaps bored would be a better word.

I don't think would have that same effect as using the TP on the outside.
