Long post
Some information pertating to this post:
The metered lot across the street from the Visitor parking booth is owned by the city, not the university.
My thoughts are in italics.
This happened later this morning, & Visitor Parking was reserved. The full sign was still on, & the big white sign stating Visitor Parking is closed for a special event was in front of the 2 gates at the booth.
There were no reserved parking spots on the event list for GED testing or for any other testing.
This particular customer was the 2nd sucky customer I dealt with today who was here to take a test.
Here is what happened.
me: "Hi, how may I help you?"
female customer: "I am here to take my GED test."
me: "I am sorry. I know you are here to take your GED test, but the lot is closed for 2 different events & there are no reserved parking spots on the event list for GED testing, & I have no available parking spots."
female customer: "So where do I park at?"
I give her several options.
female customer: "Does that mean the test has been cancelled?"
me: "I am sorry, but that was not what I said
*the parking office called me on Monday to let me know people were complaining I was telling them there was no testing today when what I told them was that there were no reserved parking spots on the event list for GED testing & that the lot was reserved*
There is testing going on today, but there are no reserved parking spots on today's event list for anyone going to testing services, & the lot is closed for 2 different events."
female customer: "Do you know when the test is?"
me: "I am sorry. I do not know."
female customer: "But I already have the information with me, & I am here to take a test."
me: "I am sorry, I know you have the information with you & that you are here to take a test, but the big white sign in front of the 2 gates applies to everyone, & I am not allowed to overrule that sign for anyone. So I have nothing at all to park in."
female customer: "So where do I park at?"
Again I repeat the same options I told her earlier. She asks me if she can park at the metered lot. I say yes.
She leaves.
This was in the morning. She returns in the afternoon.
me: "Hi, how may I help you?"
Oh, it's her again. She does not look happy. There is a ticket in her hand.
female customer *looking at me like I am the big bad wolf*: You told me to park at the metered lot, but I got this ticket. I paid for my parking. I asked a girl where to pay, & she showed me."
You asked me if you could park at the metered lot. I said yes, but if you did not feed the meter enough change, that is not my problem.
me: "I am sorry, but you will have to go to campus police about that. The metered lot is owned by the city, & they have the information for the city."
just in case you want to complain to them about my not letting you park & if somehow you think I told the meter maid to give you the ticket in your hand
female customer: "But I paid the meter, & I got this ticket. Why?"
me: "The metered lot is owned by the city, & I do not know what happened."
female customer: "So will campus police let me park over there?"
me: "You will have to ask them about that."
She looks at me like I am the big bad wolf, & she leaves.
I take a break, & on my way back to the booth I stop by campus police & ask them if someone came to the dept. with a ticket for not paying the meter. The 2 guys in dispatch said yes.
