  • Oh by the way, you're welcome!!

I was picking up barettes and headbands off the floor and hanging them back on the pegs (people constantly throw them on the floor and it drives me insane) when an older lady approached me.

    Lady: "Do you work here?"
    Me: "Yes."
Lady: "You work in this department?"
    Me: "Yes."

Then she handed me an empty package of feminine pads and told me that for weeks now we haven't had the largest size. I offer to go in the back and find out what the deal is. After looking it up in the computer I see that it's discontinued. I trek back across the store.

Me: "It looks like it's been discontinued."
Lady: *siiiiiiiiiigh* *eye roll* "So what am I supposed to DO?"
Me: "I don't know, but we're not going to be carrying them anymore. Sorry."
Lady: *grumbles under breath as I leave*

What I should have said: "By the way, YOU'RE WELCOME!" I mean, I did take the time to trek across the huge store to the back and look up your precious pads. You can at least say thanks. On a side note, the other day I had an old lady give me a big hug when I located some peach nail polish for her. That was strange, but it did bring my spirits up.

Never did understand how people fail to take the moment to thank some one for helping them, even if they didn't get the answer they wanted back. Just simple courtesy.

    Blegh.

I constantly debate about this in my mind which I'd prefer; to have the customer thank me for my time in a solemn and depressed tone, or to "thank me for nothing" and for wasting their time (lol their time.) despite me telling them that I'm pretty damn sure that we have none in "the back" ...

I'd rather deal with hatred and loathing than watch myself make someone sad. :-/
SC: "Are you new or something?"
Me: "Yes. Your planet is very backwards I hope you realize."

I'd rather they said as little to me as possible.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.
