  • I'm not a walking cash register

My company runs sales, mostly bottle water/soda and chips, that are X for $Y, byt you MUST buy X. This is probably a result of some special vendor deal. In the ads it will say "X for $Y, must buy X to get $Y. Otherwise sold for $Y.YY/ea. This is also on the sings in the store, actually multiple signs.

Today I am in the middle of the store when a lady stomps up to me with a cart full of bagged product and a receipt and flier.

    SC: This rang up wrong!!!!!
Me: *what didn't you tell the cashier/cust. svc* Ok, lee me see.

I look and see that SC only purchased 1 of the 2 required for the sale price.

Me: Ma'am well that sale requires that you purchase 2 for the $Y price.
SC: No, it says in the flier X for $Y. Look!
Me: *points* It also says you must buy that quantity for the price.
SC: Oh. Well that's not fair.
Me: Would you like me to get a manager?
SC: No, I just want my money back.
Me: Ok. Customer service can do that for you.
    SC: You can't!!!!!!!!????????
Me: *ok, i;m stocking product in the middle of the store* I'm sorry I can't. I dont have a register. Let me bring you to Cust Svc.
    SC: Ok.

The SC returns it and gets their money back, and complains to the service desk clerk that I couldn't do a refund in the middle of the store.

Um.....she didn't speak to the person who rang her up? I won't ask why-nevermind.

This is way too common at the drug store i work at.
Things will be listed like: 2 for $10 or 1 for $5.99.
But the 1 for $5.99 will be underneath the 2 for $10 which is big to grab the customer's attention.
Then they'll bitch a moan and I'll offer to send them to another register where the manager can refund they're money if they wish to return it.

That's actually an illegal sale tactic where I live If they offer 2/$5, they MUST sell you one for $2.50

I love that law! They passed it about 10 years ago

most places i've been in will allow one item in a 1 for the price of two to ring up at half the price.

but expecting you to handle her problem...in the middle of the store...with no register. now that's a whole new breed of stupid right there.
          look! it's ghengis khan!

Exactly. She had to leave the register at the front of the store, where most of the folks who could help her hang out, and find someone way back in an aisle to get it rectified?

I don't know about local laws, but at the local Safeway if it is 2 for $5 then one costs $2.50. But if a $5 item is buy one get one free, one item costs $5.

Speaking of BOGOF the local Safeway had a buy 2 get 3 free on Pepsi 12 packs. Mindboggling!

My local Safeway has both varieties of sales. Sometimes its listed as $2 for $5 ($2.50 each) and you can buy as many or as few of them as you want.

Other products on sale do have a minimum. Like buy 1 for $0.99, or if you buy 4 or more they're $0.69 each.

At the c-store our two-for specials are usually listed as, for example, "2 for $3, or regular price each". The amount of confusion this causes is amazing. Had a guy bring up 1 A&W tonight, and of course they're on special. I rang it up and he furrowed a brow, grabbed the bottle, tilted it to look at it, then looked at me and asked "Shouldn't that be $1?" Thankfully, when I explained the special to him, he was glad to get a second bottle. The customers aren't all like that. I've never had anyone throw a real fit over it yet, though, thankfully.

You know what sucks? Suck and Suck's selfscans don't show those Personal Thanks savings, so you have a legion of oxygen thieves screaming "THESE ARE SUPPOSED TA BE ON SALE."

I know many stores that have a 2 for $5 sale and will sell you one from $5. However, we are a convinence store and we don't do that. 2 for $5 means you have to buy two, especially when all the prices have "or regular price each" sometimes even listing the reg price. I don't care it isn't deceptive sure those reg price eachs are size 12 font and the other price is like 48-72, but still we have it listed there and I'm sorry there is nothing I can do for you.

The only thing that makes those sales worse is stuff on the same shelf. And why do people wait till AFTER I ring out the sale to say, BUT ITS SUPPOSED TO BE THIS!!!

NO, when it says "X BRAND CHIPS", and your dumb ass grabs Y brand POPCORN, that does not qualify for two reason, one it is a different brand and two it is a different category of food than listed, I mean really if you grabbed Y Brand chips I might be able to do something to shut your illiterate ass up, but as my sig says. Please learn to read AND COMPREHEND!!
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.
