When I was bartending in Houston, we would get these folks from Louisiana who couldn't understand why we didn't give out to-go cups like they did in their state. Made fun of our "stupid" liquor laws.
Ever get Californians who wonder why we have to close up shop at 2am?

I get people from Organ asking why we charge crv and sales tax and why do they have to pay it.

Charges like that are basically just a cup charge so you're not giving away your inventory for free.

The most expensive part of a soft drink is not the drink itself, but rather the cup the drink goes in. The drink itself is just syrup and water. Both are incredibly cheap, but a cup and lid are not.

They'd better stay away from Pennsylvania then.

i get that all the time. i had a woman argue with me for a good 10 minutes once because she said that because she was from oregon, she didn't have to pay sales tax. i finally shut her up with "you're buying something in idaho, breathing idaho air, and driving on idaho roads."

                    Iowa represent!

I've run into the "It's not like that in <my state>!" line a few times too.

I wish I could tell them to go back to where they came from when they break that one out.

This. We get that a lot here with the NY transplants. Mostly their problem is that I don't think we're moving fast enough for them. Of course, the unofficial name of New Mexico is "Mañana-land"....

Wait... Is she suggesting that Minnesota state government sets the price of donuts there? That comment doesn't make sense on ANY level, even when I try to look at it from a Sucky Customer point of view!
Minnesota elected Jesse Ventura and Al Franken to public office, and calls casseroles "hotdish" . Nothing that state does makes sense on any level.

Then again, I live in Minnesota's fat, drunken neighbor to the East. Perhaps I'm not one to talk.

Seconded. I used to work at a small family Italian joint here, and we actually sat down one day and calculated the cost of our soft drinks...Use of a plastic glass + water + ice/storage (note - iirc, Ice in the reservoir is needed to keep the fluid lines cold; otherwise, they all go flat) + syrup + washing the glass + waiter's time worked out to something like "six to ten cents per glass", assuming a normal level of ice in the glass...This was in the early 2000's.

I don't know, I think I'd vote for Jesse Ventura if he ran for President. At least you know what you're getting with him.

Of course, one of our former governors, Gary Johnson, was referred to as "Gov. Goofy". But I think he actually would make a good President. Hopefully, he will run in 2012. I'm sure he'd make a better run than our current idiot gov, King Bill, did.
