Back when I was attending week-long camps at college campuses, we had to fill out damage reports both when we got there and before we left. The initial report had to have any and all "damage" to the room that was already there and then if there were any differences between the initial report and the second report, we (well our parents) were billed for it. One year some boys broke out a window while acting stupid, but that was the worst I ever heard.
Same here. Could've just been my school band but the worst damage that would happen would usually be to ourselves or there was a few water balloon litters after our thursday night water fight, but those would be ones we missed. Our band director was a firm believer in being good christian school kids. We did everything by their rules. We weren't even allowed to order out. All of our food was provided by the cafeteria (summer courses for the school didn't involve students who lived on campus.) or whatever snack food we brought with us. No students were there the entire time we were there, so if we were loud, we didn't bother anyone.

I've noticed how hard it is to shop for myself. I'm so use to shopping for me and my bf, that since he left for 2 months, I find myself going to store and thinking about what he would want, and realizing that I'm just buying for me. It's weird. Bet ya I get used to it and when he comes back, all the food I buy will be stuff I like. I hope not, I'd feel bad then.
Just because they serve you, doesn't mean they like you. And just because they smile and act polite doesn't mean they aren't planning to destroy you.

45 dollars is more than enough to get a weeks worth of grocery, but not pay for food court.

Honestly, that's only 2 meals a day and only if you limit yourself to meals under 5 dollars.

Still being broke my Tuesday is ridiculous. And all the other stuff they do is a waste.

It is more than enough to pay for food court when you only get seven meals that aren't catered or put with the dorms. :P

Posting as a former marching band member, I'm sorry for the suck.

My question is, where was the director? My director would have killed these kids, then fed them to the drum corps (unless it was the drum corps, then he would have eaten them himself).
Seconded. Our director (both high school & college marching bands) would have killed any students behaving that way. In high school, our pep band travelled out of town with the basketball team. They had a home-stay program (small-town annual basketball tourny tradition). The basketball team & rally squad threw a massive party at one of the houses when the people were at the tourny. Our yearbook shows 2 basketball teams that year. One pre-trip, one post-trip. Only 2-3 people didn't get kicked off the team. The band wasn't involved in any of the house-trashing party.

Not all band members act like the ones you experienced. I apologize for the ones that do.

If it's anything like the SOUS band camp at my school, they're middle schoolers. Sometimes they're high schoolers. Mostly middle.

Speaking as a college student, 45 dollars for five days only gives one nine dollars a day to eat on. That's fine for one meal. Two meals is really PUSHING it. Especially considering that college food courts are INSANELY overpriced.

I feel your pain, though. Last semester, we got hit three ways on the same weekend. 1) Middle schoolers band camp. 2) High schoolers theater competition. 3) Football camp. AAAAAAAAAND...Final exams. Yeah. No. I'm not kidding.
          $9 per day is plenty.

You can buy two complete meals, and big ones, at fast food places for that much money. Probably around 3,000kcals worth of food too. Unless you're climbing Mt Everest thats more than enough. People who want to spend even more than that one food then need to spend their own money on that.

A secret for eating cheap is to order off of the value menu. If you order a combo "deal" you usually get ripped off. Probably around $6-7 for a combo "deal" if you get the combo. Order off the value menu and you can get the same amount of food for $3-4.

I just realized that I couldn't feed myself for a week for $45. It's not that I eat more than $45 worth of food in a week, it's that I have no idea how to shop for just a week for just me. I can do a week for three or four, or I can do two or three weeks for me, but I can't do one week for one person.
            Just average it out.

Consider how much money you spend on food for a period of time, then divide it by the number of days in that time period.

I usually buy things frequently, but small purchases. Then once in a while I'll make a huge purchase, but that huge purchase will be something that lasts me a long time. Like a 30lb bag of rice.

It's a skill that too me a while to learn. My university doesn't have meal hall, but there are kitchens on every floor of the dorms so you can cook for yourself. The problem is the only place to have to store food is a small full sized fridge you share with your roommate and one three shelved cupboard. So there isn't much room for bulk shopping. And you can't keep food in the kitchens. So I quickly learned what i normally consume in a week and would buy only that. It's ridiculous though because I tend to drink most of my calories so I'd have two shopping bags of bread and meat. Then a personal shopping cart with about 13 litres of milk and juice. Plus my fruits veggies and extras.

But yeah when I'm at school I drink about 8 litres of milk and 5 litres of juice weekly. Or closer to every 10 days. But then again I hated going to the kitchen so I only really cooked once a day.

I played flute through middle & high school... and my band director would have KILLED us if we trashed where ever we had band camp.

Of course, I was in high school Pre-American Pie so I never heard the "this one time at band camp" lines/jokes/etc.

And I've just dated myself. Joy. Now I feel old...
