I like self-checkout, but I get annoyed with mainly these types of people in the line. In order.

      1. People who don't know what they're doing - I can understand trying to learn and what not but these people take what feels like 20 minutes to checkout 10 items. They're looking at the screen like they're attempting to commandeer a space shuttle. I don't know how much easier it can get than to swipe your items over the scanner, bag it, swipe your rewards card or enter your phone # to apply discounts, press pay and choose your payment options. Extremely simple. Self checkout is as easy as using a Mac. On my first try I figured it out.

Then you get the people who can't figure out shit and just leave the self-checkout and get in the regular line with their stuff still on the screen making the next person have to get someone to clear and void their stuff off. Not only are they stupid they're inconsiderate.

      2. People who can't or more like don't want to form a line. Get in line, don't stand next to me and keep inching up. I only have 3 items too so wait your turn.

We have been swamped due to holidays or the impending weather event of doom. In the case the self scan cashier, at their discretion, will bring a customer thru the SCO scanning and bagging their items. All they customer has to do is tell the SCO cashier how to pay the SCO cashier presses the buttons and Customer swipes the card of feeds it money.

Even then they will refuse. Fine wait in line idiot.

If I have a large order I don't like the self-scan because the platform can only hold a couple of bags, but the machine gets cranky if I lift the bags off before I've paid.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Some days I want to interact with people, some days I don't. I really relate to that insurance commercial: "People when you want them. Technology when you don't."

But no matter what kind of line I prefer, if a new line opens or a cashier says, "I can take you here, " I get over there so fast I leave a hole in the air where I was standing.

I hate shopping. I get in, get what I need, and get out as fast as I can.
That got me put into the SC side at one point...

My family was shopping, baby had an accident, so my wife went with the kids to clean up and left me to check out.

I seen a new checklane open, and I went to it - I wanted to get out ASAP and help my wife. I was wondering why the cashier looked like she was upset while she was checking me out...

As I started to leave, I noticed the '10 items or less' sign...too late.

I felt so embarrassed that I quickly left without apologizing.

The best part about self check at my store? The people who are buying some exotic fruit and expect ME to know what it is.
"Wait, you're buying something, but YOU don't know what it is? Allow me one other question... WHY?"
                "I call murder on that!"
