Im waiting for the bank to open. They open at 9am. What happened to 8AM?

Why in my day, the banks were open 9:00 (maybe even 10:00) to 3:00, and until 6:00 on Fridays, and we liiiiiiked it!


And, they weren't open Saturdays, and they didn't have small branches in grocery stores, and we didn't have none of them new-fangled ATM's!

Someone told me that a lot of people get paid in big bills and that's allegedly all they have... not sure if that's quite it...

They can always go to the bank and change a big note; at least, they can here. Back when I worked in the pet centre, I used to have a hundred pound float that had to last me all day. That's thirty in tens, twenty in fives and fifty in loose change. Every evening, I'd get at least one person who figured that they'd pay for their £1 can of catfood with a twenty pound note, then hit the roof cuz I had no change, or could only give them their change in pound coins and fifty pence pieces.

We actually were not allowed to accept fifties, and whenever I turned a customer down and told them this when I had a fifty shoved in my face, it always prompted a temper tantrum. I wanted a huge sign up in my pet store, next to the "This is a pet store, not a creche" sign with "This is a pet store, not a bank". -.-
