i'm surprised they didn't pull the "My children will go hungry because of you" line

and it reminds me of one of my relatives. i was out for lunch with mom, sis, and her... and throughout her entire dessert she kept saying how horrible it was. between bites. she ate the whole thing.

so when she complained to the server... mom shook her head at the server, a silent message of "do not comp us on it". So the dessert remained on the bill.

I'm sure there could be a psychosomatic reaction, I hadn't considered that. But there is definitely a biological one.
not saying you don't have issues-but I'd suspect the fat content rather than the meat protein itself-I'm suspecting a very high fiber(fruits/veggies), low fat diet, which increasing fat intake may cause issues, but that would be the same from any fat increase, not just meat*-as I can find no medical literature to support a biological reaction to a vegetarian/vegan getting sick from eating meat, only anecdotes, about people getting "sick" after being informed they ate meat-so seems more psychological than anything.

*I can eat small amounts of red meat-usually I eat chicken or fish, but I get sick whenever I eat fried foods-my body doesn't like fat. yup even a small bag of french fries makes me queasy for a few hours...
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Oh, that was always my assumption, sorry I didn't make that more clear. However, I don't have as much problem with fat if it's not from meat (eggs aren't great either). I don't know if it's that I just don't eat as much fat, but I can have fries or potato chips with fewer problems than meat. Of course, there's less social obligation to eat other fatty foods, so I might just be skipping them.

Customer found a bug in his lemonade a few nights ago-upon investigation it turned out to be a strawberry seed. In his strawberry lemonade.

Did they even mention when ordering that they were vegetarian and the pizza needed to be meat-free? Don't some pizza sauces have meat in them?

I love how the parents ate the pizza and let the kids go hungry.

I think it can be a mental thing for many vegetarians/vegans, but I have a friend who gets sick each time she inadvertently eats meat, and it happens without her knowing that she actually ate it. Ie- first time it happened, we went to a restaurant and she ordered vegan bean burritos. About halfway through the meal, she got horribly sick, and after questioning the waiter we found that the accidentally used the beef/bean paste base for it, instead of the bean/soy paste that was advertised.

It's happened enough times that if something she is eating tastes even remotely similar to meat, she'll stop eating it to avoid the off chance that it DOES have meat in it, and she'll get sick.

I'm so glad my brain wasn't the only one to read brats as short for bratwurst. Conversely, when I see a sign advertising a brat fry, I imagine misbehaved kids on a grill!

My son's a vegetarian. He and I will generally share a cheese pizza because I don't like eating pepperoni, which is the only think my hubby will eat on a pizza. However, if a sliver of pepperoni managed to make it on to the pizza, my son might refuse to eat that piece but I'd just pick it off and give him one that didn't have it on it. It's really not that big a deal.

LOL at the Brats on a grill, though. There've been enough EW children to come through my various places of employment that, were it an option, I'm pretty sure we could feed a small country on nothing but brats.

Why would anyone get rid of the evidence like that? Unless there was no evidence and they were just scamming for free pizza...

Its probably more of a combination of taste and texture. I know I struggle not to be physically ill should I eat broccoli. I'm perfectly capable of eating and digesting it, and its quite nutritious, I just absolutely cannot stand the mouthfeel of it at all.
I feel the same way about tomatoes. I like tomato sauce as long as there are no chunks of tomato, but I cannot stand tomatoes themselves. Especially raw.

I did wonder about that too, the natural thing (for a SC) would be to take the sliver of pepperoni and shake it under the servers nose, not to throw it out in the street.

                              Thanks

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful comments. I believe I've been able to let this bad experience go and maybe learn a few things in the process.

Thankfully we reopened the restaurant the next day and things were back to normal....most customers telling us they love the food....many going out of their way to do so.

We'll keep moving forward. Thanks again
