I doubt I've seen the last of him, but I DID happen to sell the sofas later that day to a very nice elderly couple that realized what a great deal they were. I can't wait to tell the guy that I sold them if he comes back in.
Boy, do I ever love a happy ending! Well, it will be even happier when Dumbass comes back and tries to buy the sofas.

Yes, I AM waiting with bated breath for that.

The guy was willing to pay 1k but couldn't part with the extra hundred. My family never has 1000 to spend on furniture.

Why the hell do the well to do people need to be so cheap when people with little to no money need discounts!!!!

You're on your OWN time. You can cuss out whomever you want! Especially if they are being an ass to you. You are not on company time. They can't get you into trouble. I'm glad you stuck up for yourself. That guy was a cheap bastard who can't seem to understand that you are not your work, you get time off too. I guess it shows that he's a bastard everywhere.

            Good for you!
What right does any person have to start hassling you about a work issue when you're not even in work, and also when you're sick?
I broke up a verbal fight once in a store between a woman and a man, she worked in Marks and Spencer and he was a customer she forgot to say 'thank you' to when handing over his change. He follows her round town, shouting at her, and finally caught her in Woolworths, where I also was that day.
The poor woman was in tears. Her daughter told me this bloke has hassled her for TWO YEARS, just beciuse she didn't thank him once.

Kusanagi, you really do seem to get a bunch of losers in your store.
Are you in a bad part of town?

Why do these people go so insane over getting a discount on furniture?

I can see wanting to get a great deal, but your customers just seem to go overboard.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

What I love is Kusanagi having a cool boss and working on commissions, this allows him to be real smart with customers. Attend to the paying ones, pee at the griefers. etc

In all fairness, I really don't post the day to day annoying stuff because after two years I kind of roll with the punches(sometimes literally). There's ALOT of suckiness that comes into my store and I could make at least one post a day.

Also, if I'm not going to make commission on a piece, the only reason I sell it with urgency is because I need to move it to make room for something else that CAN make me commission. I am rather fond of money, afterall.

Floor samples are what they are. You don't need to pitch them. If a guy wants them, great. Nobody who comes in to look at clearance product needs a whole new living room or line of product - and that's common no matter where you go. I'm sure you see someone at the clearance table and then go up to them expecting them to spend alot more on your current deals, right?

Nothing ever did come out of the guy calling my boss. He's done this job for 14 years, (12 longer than he should have!) and can see through BS better than anyone I've ever known.

That's what I was thinking, if you can pay $1000, and you want the set so bad, why not come up with the $100?? )
Because some people CAN'T STAND the thought of buying anything, anything at all, with the feeling of "getting a special deal" or "sticking it to the other guy.

And they will say or do anything to get it.

SC: So, are you going to sell it to me now for a thousand out the door? I thought you might now that your boss and I had a little chat.
Kus: No, actually sir, I'm going to present you with the D**khead Customer of the Year Award!

You see, I was going to award it to Ghetto Superstar, but you have been just a bit more of a pain in the ass!

Scary and extremely sad. I hope that psycho disguised as an ordinary SC has been locked in somewhere and the key's been thrown away!

I've never had people come up to me after work, but I have had people try and haggle down sale prices. We have a rule, if it's already been marked down, it won't come down any further (especially on jewelry marked 50% off). Which we're basically selling "at price" (because of the gold weight), and people just don't understand . . . "it's got a scratch in it . . ." or whatever . . . which is why it's on sale in the first place (and I've told people this as well . . .)
OT - Things may have changed a bit since I was in the jewelry business, but we marked the good stuff (14k) up triple keystone. IE if it cost us $100 then we marked it to $300. This was standard in the '70's. So 50% off would bring it down to $150 which was till a tidy little profit.

Thank goodness I did not have to put up with a lot of SCs back then, but there were a few more than memorable ones.

When people would ask me what the pieces were "worth" I'd have to say "Well, that depends. What is it worth to you?" No, I did not work on commission, but I did have lots of repeat customers!
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

According to my jeweler its the same today. 300% markup from any sort of jewelry store. Thank goodness for him. He only charges me cost + $100 and has everything appraised before delivery.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

I can honestly say that I have never heard of such rudeness. Kusanagi, I applaud you for standing up for yourself. I have had quite a few instances where I have run into people whom I have helped at my job, but they are always cordial and I respond in kind. I don't know what I would do if someone did that to me.

I just had one customer comment on the 18 pack of beer I was buying after work: "Hard day?" We both got a good laugh out of that. That guy was a jerk Kusanagi and he was treated appropriately.
I was buying beer after a store meeting. Okay, the meeting ended at 8:00 am, but it was my day off and I didn't want to have to drive 5 miles back to work AGAIN later in the day to get beer.

Customer in front of me in line gives me a dirty look and says "Well I guess it's happy hour SOMEWHERE!".

I wasn't wearing anything identifying me as an employee (I came in my street clothes since it was a pre-opening meeting), I shot back with something along the lines of "Sorry if I can't drink a few after working my ass off all night!".

Yeah, I'm an asshole. The cashier knew I worked there but kept a straight face until after the customer left.

When I honestly did work nights (getting off at 7am, which is when you can start buying beer in TX) I'd get the same line all the time, and my response was usually the same, if not even ruder.
