Actually, in some cases it does make a significant difference. Sometimes the quality is different - I've had some store brand (thing X) where they bought Z grade fruits, whereas name brand buys A or B grade. I found the store brand ones inedibly awful.

as for turkey guy - how do you not notice the turkey isn't sitting in the fridge thawing? Sheesh.

Maybe he was the one who ruined the turkey the wife had prepared butting him in an even worse position then if he had forgotten it.

I'll never understand people with a fear of paying less for exactly the same thing. Oh good god store brand? Never! Must have the brand name. Even if it's something that can't really differ. It's cranberries. How some people never see that buying a different kind won't magically result in a different fruit baffles me to this day.
Me too...I get the store brand in just about everything....it's probably packed in the same plant out of the same stock.

What the heck is secret stadium sauce?
It's a wonderful, magical condiment that henceforth goes on all my bratwurst.

I'm normally a big believer in store brand, but I find it's worth it to pay the extra to get the good store brand, not the cheap one. (I never buy Equality, but I will buy Master's Choice. I only occasionally buy No Name, but I'll by PC, etc.) Just make sure you check the nutritional information to make sure that there's as much food in it as in whatever else you want.

However, I would buy No Name if there was nothing else and I needed it, even if there was extra sugar or extra salt. Heck, I'd buy Equality.

And running out of one specific brand of cranberries is nothing. Our store was out of flour once. (I have no idea how badly, because my husband had gone because we discovered my parents were out, and the car was out on another errand. They may still have had the large bags, but you can't buy anything over 10 lb if you're 20 minutes away from the store and carrying it back in your arms).

I worked at a grocery store for two Thanksgivings and Christmases. Every holiday we sold out of fresh turkeys no later than the morning before the holiday, and every holiday we would have people come in at close, panicking because we had no more turkey. Never mind turkey was on sale for like a month before Thanksgiving through New Years. They just HAD to get a turkey the night before.

One guy refused to believe us when we told him that the 15 pound frozen turkey he bought at 8 pm on Thanksgiving eve wouldn't be defrosted in time to cook for dinner the next day. I wonder what happened to him...

Simple: he doesn't care enough to pay attention. As far as he's concerned, the food just magically appears, fully cooked and ready to eat. It's not as if his wife spends hours in the kitchen making and cooking his food.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

The one year (I forget if it was Turkey-day or Christmas, but a feast-day nonetheless) my store ran out of eggs I had a guy ask me what was so special about the two and a half dollar per dozen brand that we still had a couple packs of. I told him they were the ones we had. He agreed that that made them pretty special and polished off our remaining inventory

I'd be willing to bet that Christmas Eve is when he normally shops for his wife's gift as well. And if he never has a problem finding a nice pair of fluffy slippers (in completely the wrong size) for her, then obviously there'll be no problem finding the one thing that just about everybody wants at this time of year!
