  • Dear Customer:

When asking if we have more of the same kind of flower in stock but in a different color, please be aware of the following:

    1. I need an exact UPC for said flower,
    2. Yes they are the same kind of flower, but even the different colors you were buying have different UPC's,
    3. No, I can not replace a random number in the other flower's UPC code to magically pull it out of my ass or the system because it won't do a damn thing other then waste what little time I have left of the night, and
    4. When I tell you that it can't be done and won't work, don't stand there and argue with me. I've been in retail for ten years now, I know what I'm talking about.

Also, I will not bother the MOD over this shit, she's A. Already pissed off no one's helping her reset half of her department, and B. Doesn't need to repeat the same crap I'm telling you. No, the scanner won't tell you anything without a fucking UPC in front of me!

And, no, we don't have any more in the back. Feel free to attempt to look through the back with me. It's full of Halloween and Christmas stuff and it'll take a few hours, hope you packed a few snacks.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

But...but I wanted those flowers so bad!

Wow, this is why I skipped flowers (other than my bouquet and my maid of honor's rose) for my wedding, and even those were fake, walmart ones that cost maybe $10 for all of them.

Maybe they thought you had picture search for flowers?

      The the guns are MAGIC!

It's only August and I swear the Christmas SC's are already out, in full force, to irritate the crap out of me.

BTW: I hate the stems. Hate them. They reset them every six months, it seems like. Nope, the blue ones are not a digit off the green ones.

Then there are SOME where the whole box of completely different flowers all have the same UPC. I could scan that and tell you we have 80 of them. But it won't tell me if we have that pink one you wanted.

I try to get them to understand that with the ribbon, there is a certain kind, it comes with 3 different widths in the box. The whole box is the same upc. I scan one, it says we have 60, it's not going to tell me if one is 1/8, and one is 1/16th.... it's just not.

(Or they don't understand that the dollar ribbon all comes in ONE box...and we just dump it in the bin... with the exception of clearance ribbon...it's all the same)

Do you have any more in the back. Yes. Yes we do. LOTS, and we're hiding it from you. Usually when I get asked "do you have anymore in the back" it's for something that we get like 3 at a time for. And the shelf could hold 20. Or wooden letters. "Y'all need to restock the wood letters" ya think? Gah.

it's going to be a long season.
you are = you're. not "your".

They never understand the point of plu's and upc's. I don't know how many times someone brings up a bag with something from the bakery. I ask what it is (cuz you don't want me pawing through it with my nasy money laden checker hands) and they can never just tell me 4 bagels or whatever. They have to say theres 4 in there 59 cents each.

Well that doesnt tell me ANYTHING! Bagels have a number, donuts have a different number, muffins have a different number pastries, rolls all have a different number. Just like produce. Telling me the price does nothing. I need the number! Prices change all the time, the number is my constant! Just tell me if you have a donut damnit!
        WELCOME

You and I must work for the same company, hell maybe even at the same store. This sounds exactly like where I work at, right down to the wooden letters.

That would be a weird way to meet your coworkers

That would be weird, so very very. heh. But I'm thinking the company is just insane everywhere (I was reading somewhere.. some job rating website, and nearly EVERY entry for Glitter Hell had the same complaints. I was much happier when I thought it was just MY store...but no, it's all the same).

There isn't a day that goes by without the wooden letter drama. I sometimes wonder how well they would burn.

I also hate that "it's 25 cents". I don't care, I need to scan something, enter some number. Because, you know what? I know that the item is a quarter. I even know exactly on the shelf where you got it from. Because I put it there. I didn't memorize the UPC or the SKU. Cause my brain is already full of useless numbers (like the most common coupon upc...).

Android Kaeli, it's Glitter Season. Hopefully we'll come out the other end mostly sane.

I don't think most customers have a clue how UPCs work or what they're for. They just assume you have all this information in your heads!
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Yes, it is Glitter Season. I've already told co-workers it's starting to look like some twisted version of Nightmare Before Christmas. Seriously, there's Halloween in one aisle and when one goes down the next aisle, POOF! Christmas!

And the pine cones, they're in....had one former co-worker who nearly passed out because of the scented pine cones. Those things had to be kept outside.

I think customers have an okay grasp on UPC's, at least the ones I have SC or not, but sometimes there's an odd one or two that just strikes me as, well, the best way I can describe it is "O.o".

I swear, the pine cones smell WORSE this year. Also, I think last year we didn't have Christmas out until September 1. Or something.

Customers were bitching to me about the Halloween stuff being out already. I helpfully pointed out that Christmas stuff was two aisles in the other direction... They didn't not appreciate it. I dunno why.

I can't wait for the "where's your Thanksgiving stuff?"... "oh, it's on half an end cap thatway..."
