Why are the Lovenox syringes so expensive? Are they some very specialized, very uncommon type of syringe, or is lovenox a medication and they come preloaded?

Either way, couldn't the pharmacy return them to the supplier, or require that the patient buy them as he has a legally binding implied contract by asking you to special order them on his behalf?

Both, it seems. I'm taking something similar after a DVT, the medication is horribly expensive, luckily the oncologist pay it, since the blood clot is a sideeffect of either the cancer or the chemotherapy. I first got a prescription and checked what my selfpay would be .

Given the things she was asking for she may have been trying to help herself save money on not having to pay co-pays for doctors visits or helping a friend with no insurance.
I figure that to be the case. Hydrocortisone and antibiotics are hardly gateway drugs.

I have an ear infection. I know this, I get the a lot. I know what drops the doctor will proscribe for me. But I still have to go and see him - which means a three day wait for an appointment. If I could write a fake prescription, I would be tempted, just to save me three days of pain and discomfort. (ok I wouldn't because I'd be too afraid of getting caught).

The thing is, she should have the police called on her for fraud, anyway. That is, the lady who scammed a bunch of medications.
I assume she still had to pay for them (or co-pay). She is probably scamming the insurance company though.

Oh, god, the phone thing! I call customers when their ads expire to see if they want to renew. The stupid voicemail greetings...babies babbling away, dogs barking...I reached one that featured a screaming woman (yes, that was their idea of a "voicemail greeting"); and the music ones are horrible. I dread hearing the words "please enjoy the music while your party is reached." It's always something hideous. Sometimes the greeting goes on so long I hang up.

I know what she did was wrong but for me your motivations for crimes should be taken into account. She should be punished, but I wonder what she wanted that stuff for.
I don't know what her logic was, but the fact is she impersonated a doctor. She committed a felony. If I were the doctor I would certainly contact law enforcement and her insurance company because there is a record out there of numerous prescriptions written by this doctor when in fact she never authorized them.

My sister in law has been in retail her WHOLEEEE life. Shes used to SCs and has been in a managerial position several times. She works well under pressure. She wants to go to school for something that wont take forever, but still kinda uses her sales experience.

Would you honestly not recommend it? Shes still in the researching part of her search.
I do recommend it. It is a challenging and stimulating job. Just beware that there are a few states that have no licensing or certification requirements for pharmacy technicians. In those states they tend to hire high school kids and other people who are willing to work for low wages and you aren't really allowed to do anything that involves personal accountability.

If it is a state that requires techs to be certified or licensed then I would say go for it. If it is a state that doesn't, try to find an employer that requires it anyway.

So I am assuming the scam woman has the Dr.'s DEA registery number also????? I thought that with phone in orders there would be more security measures in place. even if you are dealing with the non-druggie-use type stuff.
The woman never called in a controlled substance for herself. She never would have needed it, but if she ever had a hand-written prescription from that doctor it was most likely on the face of it.

Her insurance company paid for all those prescriptions that were not legally written, so yes. She did scam them as well.

I know I deal with dumb people every day. I was asking some one there phone number, she did not know her own area code and did seem sure of the number she gave me. Ok so look her file up with the phone number is not going to work. Get her name now I need her zip code. She does not know it eather. I wanted to say ok What do you know then???

The one time I was runing low on the meds for my back and was going to Iowa soon. I thought we will try going with out the script meds. I was only going to be in Iowa for a couple a days. UH yeah that did not work. I had to call my docs office leave them know I am in Iowa and here is the number to the Pharmacy near me. This was a small town pharmacy so they see my name come though and they are like what who is this person. All worked out in the end though!!!

yup possibly creating more antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria is totally harmless

plus not being an actual doctor-different antibiotics only work for specific infections(especially now due to drug-resistant strains caused by antibiotic misuse).

I had a strain of strep throat that was resistant to 7 different antibiotics-the only thing they were able to do to cure me was remove my tonsils, which had abscessed due to at 12 month long strep infection-that was fun. Don't get me started on my 6 month kidney infection that the e-coli bacteria that caused it turned out to be resistant to 7 different antibiotics-basicly everything normally used for kidney infections wouldn't work-at all-I got IV antibiotics-for what started out as a damned UTI.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Hey, hey now. I didn't say the woman was intelligent, nor what she was doing was right. But making her out to be some kind of villainous scam artist who's profiteering off of seriously common prescriptions seemed a bit over board. And I completely agree on not using antibiotics unless prescribed by a doctor. I HATE it when my Mother-in-law tries to get me to give my son them when he has a cold. It doesn't make the cold go away and you're going to make it harder for real infections to be treated.

I'm glad people are starting to realize this. I know of doctors who have given a patient a prescription for an antibiotic because the patient threw a fit when they were told they had the flu and didn't need one. There are a now a few types of bacteria that are resistant to all but one or two very expensive antibiotics and that should scare everyone. If people don't stop using antibiotics improperly there is going to be a day when we start dying from infections that were once easily treated with inexpensive antibiotics. Everyone on this board, please educate everyone you can about the dangers of using antibiotics when they are not needed.

Okay, I'm taking my white lab coat back off now and I promise I won't ever wear it again on this board.

This reminds me of something a relative pulled a few years back...Her hubby was a doctor and he was able to score my Dad a handful of strong (non-OTC) antibiotics to help with an infection caused by a nasty spider bite. Aforementioned relative declared that these meds would be more useful at home, where she could use them to treat her kids' colds...So, I wound up ...er, writing a check against a deposit that hadn't exactly cleared yet >_> (yeah, I know, bad thing), dropping over $100 that I couldn't really spare on nine pills at 11 o'clock at night, instead of getting them for free as we were promised. The sad part is that she is a nice person, she really believed what she said, and that she wasn't doing anybody any harm >_<

Holy F**K! I didnt know Lovenox was sooo damn expensive! No wonder our case manager jumps through circus hoops lit on fire whenever a patient is prescribed these for discharge.

And you are mad at us? You seriously didn't think to come up and check on it after twenty minutes or so? You walked around the store for a full two and a half hours without once checking the status and we are the ones that are in the wrong here?
Granted, the guy was pretty dumb for waiting that long. However, how many times have we read on here about CSR's getting irritated because someone kept checking on something, especially since they've given the customer a pager, or tell them they'll call, etc.

So the guy probably didn't want to be a PITA and figured his pager would eventually go off.

Again, waiting that long when quoted 20 minutes is ridiculous, but I can kinda see why he didn't come up at first.

Oh I definitely understand what you are saying. I would get annoyed as well fi someone kept coming back every few minutes. The issue at hand is that that the person was told that it would be approximately 20 minutes. I just feel that someone with common sense would have come back to check on the status after, say, 25-30 minutes had gone by. If that annoys a CSR, then they are the one's being unreasonable, no the customer.

I understand that it was our fault that the pager never went off. We did apologize for that. But it was not our fault that the person chose to wait around in the store for 2 1/2 hours without once coming back to the pharmacy to check the status of their prescription.

I work in a drug store (but as a desk lady), and I always feel bad for our pharmacy people for those reasons you listed on another page.

It also makes me wonder just how mad some of the customers get now... our chain of stores have recently stopped carrying narcotics (oxy, and others) because we have been robbed a lot in the last year. They have to be ordered in!
