Whiskey, you got your number backwards: Antisocial and Borderline personality disorders aren't all that rare compared to Bipolar disorder.
According to the DSM-IV-TR (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2000), "(t)he overall prevalence of Antisocial Personality Disorder in community samples is about 3% in males and about 1% in females" (p. 704). It also appears to be associated with low socioeconomic standing and urban settings, and is under-diagnosed in females. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is about 2% overall in the population and accounts for 30%-60% of the population with a diagnosed personality disorder, and 75% of people diagnosed with BPD are female.
On the contrary, bipolar disorder (BP) has a prevalence of only 0.4% to 1.6% (APA, 2000, p 385).
My personal opinion is that just plain old unmannered assholes are more prevalent that all three disorders combined!
So, while anger symptoms may be common to all three disorders, chances are that the random person you encounter is either antisocial or BPD, not bipolar.
