    Please, I Won't Even Scream

Big Christian College (BCC) in my state is across the fucking street from my Malmart. They open for classes in TWO DAYS.

Why do I speak with such anger? Read on. Read on.

We cashiers here at Malmart are supposed to get a break every 2 hours. How it works with a 9 hour shift is like this:

    2 hours working
    15 min break
    2 hours working
    Lunch (1 hour)
    2 hours working
    Break
    2 hours working
    Home

Here's how my shift today worked out:

    2 hours working
    Break
    2 1/2 hours
    Lunch
    4 hours

And not only that, I was on REGISTER 5 for those 4 hours. Register 5 is the first belt (conveyor) on grocery side and is always hit hard.

I clocked out half an hour late. I know we were busy, but we had a grand total of 8 registers open out of 29.

It is now 2 am and my feet are STILL throbbing.

    Baby Stuff

I cannot for the life of me remember what the item was. I think it was a toy of some sort.

Bitch brings it up, and it rings up $25. She says it's supposed to be $18, since she had a gift card, and yada yada yada.

Turns out she returned the same item, and only got credited $18 because she did not have her receipt.

She spent 10 minutes arguing with a manager about this, and I spent 10 minutes with my fingers in my ears pretending I was cleaning them. (And yes I did use hand sanitizer and paper towels before waiting on someone else)

And rest. I want to pass out.

I'm just burnt out, $8 an hour is not worth this. Even 100% commission jobs would be better than this!

Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

for the returned item why didn't she just exchange it in the first place rather than getting a refund then rebuying it?

It's also Target. Tama, for the feet: rinse them in the hottest water possible (without burning yourself), then in cold water. It will take the pain away. Bad idea if you're diabetic, though.

Hey guys - we encourage posters to obfuscate details such as their employer etc etc, as many companys now actually trawl the internet looking for something like this. If an OP refers to their company as Beetlejuice, then please continue to refer to it as Beetlejuice, even if you know which company it is. As a result, I am editing the posts.

Wow, that seems like a sweet deal to me. At the fabric store (big chain company) You get one 15 minute break if you work 4 hours, and one half hour break if you work 7 or more. I often worked 9 hour shifts, and would just get the half hour break sometime in the middle.

I'm with Flutes on this one. At my store (a larger grocery chain on the East Coast, Virginia and up), we get a 15 minute break for anything less than 7 hours. For over 7 hours, we get a 30 minute "meal" and the single 15 minute break. I think for nine or ten hours you might get another 15 minute, but I'm not entirely sure.

I'd love a 15 minute every two hours. lol
Tend to work 5 hour shifts at a minimum personally. I'm lucky if I get the break 2 and a half to three hours in.

The second lady just seemed... Well, daft is a nice word.

My break schedule at Hellmart worked the same way... in a perfect world, that is. I've worked retail and fast food before, but I'd never truly yearned for breaktime like I did at Hellmart. Sometimes you only got breaks if you complained long and loud about it, which of course looks bad to both management and customers. And forget trying to get a replacement so you could go to the bathroom when it wasn't during break. No one was intentionally screwing over the cashiers, we were just busy and front end was always chaos.

But only 8 out of 29 registers open during the move-in school rush? Bastages.

This. I always hated that. There were nights that no breaks or lunch were to be had. Actually got worse when I got CSM. Even when I got breaks, it was almost guaranteed there would be a page "Mytical to the front please. Mytical to Electronics please. Mytical for customer service please." usually all at once.

We get one 15 for shifts up to 5.5 hours, one 15 and one 30 min lunch for 6 to 7.5 hours, two 15s and a 30 lunch for eight or more hours.

My managers (same fabric store chain as yours) absolutely insist that we take our scheduled breaks when they are scheduled, even if we have to shuffle employees around from cut table to cash register. I'm thinking they either got screwed over when they themselves were mere employees, or someone sometime got busted for screwing employees out of breaks.

Man I wish my break schedule looked like that... on our 8 hour days we get a half hour lunch somewhere in the middle and one 15 min break to use at our discretion.
