  • Dead employees = hilarious

We lost a member of our overnight crew last week to a massive heart attack. There is a wreath at the front door now with a banner on it that says "In loving memory of _____". Of course we get a lot of questions, wanting to know who this person was and what happened to him. Most people are sympathetic and say it's pretty scary and 'makes you think' to know he was just here last week and now he's gone. However I had one person come in the door and inquire . . . this was before I'd found out how the associate passed away and I said I didn't know when they asked how he died. The guy said "But he ain't breathin' now?"

    Me: Uh, well no, obviously.

Him: He got run over by a semi that came here to unload. That's my theory.

He then walked away laughing. I know some people have different styles of humor and all, but really, I found this really tasteless, considering the change in mood I've seen in the overnight crew when they come in now. I only knew the man by his face and we'd always tell each other to have a good night when I was leaving, but I don't think it's anything to have a laugh over. The amount of amusement this customer was deriving from the situation was disturbing.
The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

I dont know what style of humor you would need for that to be funny, but its one I've never encountered. What an ass.

while my sense of humor runs to the dark and twisted, there are just some lines that should never EVER be crossed.

humor and death like that don't pair well. >

He sure had a nice sense of humor...not. Death and humor never mix. Sorry to hear about your co-worker.

I have a sick, twisted sense of humor myself, and even I never would have thought to say anything other than, "Oh, I'm sorry."

I can understand people using humor as a coping mechanism, but when he had nothing to do with it and didn't know the guy it's just callous.

                Ditto.

I have joked about lots of things including death - but there isn't anything funny there.

I think dark humour should only be shared with someone at the same distance from a tragedy as you I think. If you are both relatively close to an event that can be OK (if you know the other person will get the joke), but not if you are unaffected and the other person worked with a person. Plus dark humour needs humour, there is no joke there. That's just being unpleasant for no reason.

like Victoria J said dark humor needs humor and there is no joke there
