  • The Customer That Couldn't Wait

    Today, I went over to a register that needed an override to be signed off so the checker coming in could use it. A customer came over wanting to know if the line was open and the checker said that it wasn't then. The customer wasn't happy about that so I opened up in that register and took some customers. The checker ended up in another register and I stayed in the register until another checker relieved me.

    That sounds like a James Bond film gone wrong

    This time james takes on the worst villian of them all, corporate America in, "The customer that could not wait!" Watch as Bond takes on grumpy customers, incompetent managers and jaded employees. Watch for the shopping cart chase through the store to catch the evil mystery customer, a spy sent from headquaters!!!

        Yesterday, I was cancelling lottery tickets that I printed by mistake. A customer wanted to know how long he would have to wait, I told him that I would be with him in a few minutes, and he wasn't happy about that. When I was finally able to help him, I took him over to where the item he wanted would've been. It turned out that we were out, which is why the customer couldn't find it, and the substitute manager explained that there's a certain vendor that orders them. The substitute manager offered another brand for the same price and the customer accepted that. I did explain to the customer when I rang him up that I had to cancel the lottery tickets before the cancel time expired.

          Yesterday, a customer came up with a receipt that was faded out on one part of the receipt. I tried to bring it up on the computer and I wasn't able to find the correct receipt. The customer decided I was taking too long even though it had only been a few minutes and ended up leaving. My coworker at the desk let me know that I couldn't help people who didn't want to be helped.

            Yesterday, one of the former baggers wanted 2 checks cashed. A customer wanted 2 newspapers rung up and she couldn't wait until I was finished cashing the former bagger's 2 checks so I had to ring her up on the other service desk register.

              Yesterday, I got a call from a customer who wanted to know if we had a certain kind of milk. I had to put her on hold since I had customers and no one that I knew of could look for the milk. When I got back to the customer on the phone I double checked with the customer about the milk. The customer mentioned that she had been waiting for 15 minutes (even though it was probably about 5 minutes) and wasn't happy that I was getting back to her at that time to clarify the milk. I mentioned that I had some customers. The customer on the phone hung up.

                Today, the girl on the service desk had a customer asking her a question, and the phone started ringing.

                That is where the phone gets answered, so she had no choice but to excuse herself and pick up the phone. The man said to her, "I hate when people answer the phone when I'm in the middle of asking a question."

                The girl was talking about it in the breakroom, and was a little upset at how nasty the man was about it.
                I said, "Why didn't you just say right back, 'I hate when people ask questions while I'm trying to answer the phone.'"
                Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

                  That's why I love that I'm not allowed to answer the phone! Except if we're super-busy, in which case a manager with authorize me to pick up the phone and hang it right back up. It's mostly people calling in sick/late, and we'll just figure it out when they don't show up if we can't answer the phone.

                  If it's a customer, they were probably gonna go to a higher level anyway, just to complain cos their cheeseburger was cold by the time they managed to eat it. Side note: we don't replace stuff if you ordered it an hour ago and it's now cold.

                    Yesterday, one of the checkers got a phone call and I covered for her so she could take the call since the checkers can't take outside calls at their register. When she got back, I mentioned that she needed change which she gave me the money for. On my way to get the change, a customer stopped me about being charged twice on an item and I told him that the service desk could take care of that while I was keeping the money hidden from him. He wasn't too happy about that. I got the change for the checker and the customer wasn't happy about having to wait. I decided to get the customer out quickly so I refunded the extra amount and sent him on his way.

                      Yesterday, I had opened up a register since it was busy. While I was ringing up a customer who had a large order, another customer wanted to buy a small cup of coffee. I told the 2nd customer that I was with another customer. The 2nd customer couldn't wait for the 1st customer's order to be finished for some reason so I rang up the coffee in another register so the 2nd customer could be on her way.

                      The 1st customer bagged the stuff on the spin counter when I was serving the 2nd customer. I did apologize to the 1st customer and luckily she didn't get mad.

                        that's why you should go there when you have time to shop. We don't get paid enough to be bitched at by Sc's because they decide to go somewhere to shop instead of using that time to go where they are supposed to go to be there on time!

                          Yesterday, less than 15 minutes before closing, a customer wanted me to ring up a few items since she didn't want to wait for the other customers before her to finish since they had a lot of groceries. I informed her that I didn't have a till to ring her up in and eventually she ended up leaving and I put back the cold items she left.
