I haven't worked retail in over 4 years, but in the past year, they've tried to keep the factory open on holidays, even Thanksgiving and Christmas!! Christmas was a no-go because people actually put their feet down and threw a tantrum.

We already get holiday pay for holidays, they are paid days off that are the same every year. Screwing with that is just stupid. Working on a holiday at my work means you will be paid at your normal rate, because you will not get overtime any week that there is a holiday, because that's 8 hours that you technically did not work. Yet all the Team Players at my work scurry to sign up and always work on holidays. Haha, have fun making straight pay.

That's GOT to be one of the STUPIDEST things I've ever heard.

At least at my place, the only 'scrambling' for holidays is done because we get 1.5 hrs pay (or double time on christmas), regardless of how many hours we work during that particular week.

I knew you worked with some idiots, Blas - but this just illustrated the sheer depth of their idiocy. Good God.

What's even funnier.....holiday pay does NOT include shift bonuses, the same as when we take a paid day off.

I mean, it's sort of like double pay, because you do still get your holiday pay (minus your shift bonus) AND straight pay.....but really? Out of your way on a holiday and not even getting overtime pay? Please.

And those idiots still snarl and bark at people like me who refuse to volunteer.

          That's ridiculous.

They'd go nuts at my place. On Christmas, we get double time for the hours worked, plus 12 hours holiday pay (since we work 12 hour shifts), PLUS comp time for the hours worked.

They'd probably kill each other and step over the bodies to get in line.
