I'm dealing with a perfectly decent customer I am putting her return(she had no receipt) on a store gift card when:
SCcuts in line) I need to return this DVD!
Me: I'm sorry ma'am but I am waiting on this lady, if you can get behind the gentleman in red I can help you.(there are 3 people in line)
SC: No they ain't like me. I'm on probation. I need to see my probation officer in two hours!
Me; I'm sorry but I can't let you cut in line.
SC: But if I miss this meeting I'll go to jail, assh-le, don't you giving a f-ck about customers, you retarded punk?
    Me:...
C: You know he's been very nice to me I'm sure that if you get in line you'll be out of here soon.
(SC eventually goes to the back of the line)
I process the returns , (including hers)and it takes about ten minutes.
SC: (after she gets her money back) If I go to jail it'll be your fault I'll sue you for slander and false arrest!!

I don't think SC knows what either of these things are, but i'll bet they're on her criminal record under "Convictions"

(i know you cant be criminally convicted of slander leave it alone)

Not quite the same thing, but the service desk ladies once had these two women harping at them to hurry up with their return or something, because they had to book it to the county jail to visit somebody.

Wait. What in the name of the Sith were they doing trying to do a return before a meeting with a parole officer? Yeah, my IQ has to have dropped a good 50 points trying to figure this out. Couldn't they wait till, oh I don't know..they DON'T have such an appointment? Wait, trying to assign logic to an SC..there goes another few IQ points...

False arrest is a common law tort, where a plaintiff alleges they were held in custody without probable cause, or without an order issued by a court of competent jurisdiction. Although it is possible to sue law enforcement officials for false arrest, the usual defendants in such cases are private security firms.

In common law jurisdictions, slander refers to a malicious, false,[2] and defamatory spoken statement or report.

Gee, none of those seem to apply here. You aren't saying anything false, malicious, or defamatory about her nor are you the arresting agency in this case should she get pulled in.

Yes, false arrest is where the police arrest you without having a proper reason to do so.

Slander is when you intentionally make a false statement or write something false about someone, with intention of ruining their reputation.

Neither of those would apply to the situation.

Although it is possible to sue law enforcement officials for false arrest, the usual defendants in such cases are private security firms.
Translated into Moron: You're holding her up and making her late for her appointment with the parole officer, which could get her arrested. Not only that, you're holding her up in a fashion that is totally unfair, because she's speshul, which is like falsely holding her up. And since falsely holding her up gets her arrested, it's a false arrest and your fault. Thus, a "false arrest" in Moron.

In common law jurisdictions, slander refers to a malicious, false,[2] and defamatory spoken statement or report.
Translated into Moron: You're telling her things she doesn't want to hear. Now, as the Moron knows she's always right, that means your statement must be false. Not only that, the Moron knows the only reason someone doesn't drop everything and help her is because they hate the Moron. Thus, your words are a hateful (thus malicious) and false statement against her, which the Moron knows to be "slander" because she heard that word on Judge Judy once.

Some people just don't know how to plan their day. . .

Really whats more important returning a DVD (without a receipt mind you) or trying to be on time for an appointment?

Poor management of priorities are a common thing I see at my job, like when I get a SC who wants their oil change in 5 mins cause they have to be elsewhere in a half hour.

He's got two hours! How long does he think it will take to return a DVD? Unless his probation officer is over 100 miles away, he has time for dinner and show (ok I'm exagerating slightly).

Lemme guess, you're also liable for the speeding tickets she'll be getting too, because now she's late and has no choice but to hurry!

Sweet Zombie Jesus! I completely missed the fact that it was for a DVD return. When I read that I was half asleep and trying to gather enough caffeine molecules to get the higher cognitive functions to run more than 5 minutes without conking out. I honestly thought the OP was handling the line AT the probation officer's office.

That means that this makes even less sense to try to call in false arrest.

And people wonder why I have no faith in humanity anymore.

Oh, dear, I think I may have been confusing. The customer I was helping at the time, that the SC cut in line didn't have a receipt. That customer was cool. The SC had a receipt.
