I deal with my fair share of BBB complaints, but most of them are people just demanding free stuff.
The complaints aren't that big of a deal and are easily resolved. I just respond to the complaint, point out our policies and what we have offered, and all of the solutions the customer has refused or turned down, and the BBB resolves the complaint with the customer looking like a greedy arse.

Heh. My company has two entries for the same business at the same address. One entry has a B rating with no explanations, one has an A rating. Both say "no complaints in the past three file time blah blah blah" so I have to wonder about the B rating. Probably because we were sued by the FTC. And won. And then the FTC appealed. And we lost the appeal. Blah. Stupid government."Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!" - The Truman Show

Now I'm tempted to look up my dad's company on the BBB and like Angie's list or something. He does extremely thorough construction work, and throws in a ton of freebies (he's apparently earning in the negatives, according to mum). Still, he gets a ton of "I'm reporting you for [stupid reason]!"
One time it was because my husband wouldn't date the homeowner's daughter. Dad got in their face and said, "Of course he won't date your daughter. He's married to MY daughter!" Luckily it was during the free bid so dad didn't lose out on any money, but still.
Nope, found nothing about his business.Oh wook at teh widdle babeh dwaggin! How cyuuute babeh dwag-AAAAAAAUUUGGGHHHH! *nom*

Having put in two years with the BBB, I can tell you that they really don't do much unless the company is a member. Usually the BBB is just the middle people in a complaint. SC sends complaint, BBB sends it to the company, company has choice to answer or not. If answered, the answer is sent to the BBB then to the sc. If sc is happy, all is good. If sc is not happy they can rebut back to BBB who sends it to company. If the company is a member and the rebuttal is then answered in a way that the sc is not happy, then mediation is done. Mediation is the ONLY legally binding thing the BBB does. That's about all the BBB does really.
I never got scared when sc's threatened calling them on whatever company I was with, even before I did my time with them. After I left the BBB, I really didn't care if sc's called them or not.

Wow, my old company has an A rating with them.
Not that I'm shocked, having put in time with the warranty department, they are absurdly willing to bend over backwards for any SC that bitches loudly enough, even if it's for something that was obviously not our fault.
In some cases, things that we pointed out to the customer, they signed off on as 'yes this was there before the work started', and then complained about later.
I sure did love the ever changing policies there. Sure did make it easy to do one's job properly... </sarcasm>Character flaws aren't a philosophy -Scott Adams
