In the US you get charged for minutes - doens't matter if it is incoming or outgoing
Voice Mail is not considered minutes - unless you are using the cell phone itself to listen to the voice mail (this can be done by a land line phone)
Of course this also depends on the company you go with and which contract you choose.
I use text for the simplictiy - like if I am meeting friends for lunch - the first one there gets the table and then texts the others with where in the resturant to go
Need to pass info on to someone and really don't want to get into a conversation or have time for it
During the day - while either side of the conversation is at work - don't want to pass personal infor through company computer / not allowed to/ don't have access - it can make it easier
On the other hand I have a friend that doesn't like to get txt - so I don't txt her - I send her e-mail or call after work from land line (I am cheap)
