  • hotel guests wanting adjustments

I had 2 guests ask for adjustments....offered both of them to move rooms and they refused. I gave one of them a adj but probably shouldnt have. Mad at myself for that. I figure you refuse rooms...to bad. One was for a clogged toilet was fixed anyway..this one did not get an adj.

Both were rude and I was really tired so maybe gave in a little a to easy

Anyone else find they get pushy guests like this

Yeah. I get the ones that want money off though, cause they were dull and left the DND on their door and weren't cleaned. "I want money off." Yeah.. no.

If I leave the DND on too long and my room doesn't get cleaned, I might nicely ask at the front desk if I can get extra towels if I need them. But that's it.

I usually leave the DND on all weekend when I'm at conventions... don't really need the hotel staff in the room... nothing bad going on, just don't want them moving my stuff! *shrug* Went down to the front desk because they were offering late checkout for the con, and I wanted to make sure my room was marked correctly for the check out, and they apologized for not cleaning my room. Ummm... thank you but not necessary. The next con after that, I just told the front desk that I didn't need the room cleaned so they didn't need to assign it to anyone in housekeeping. They actually thanked me for letting them know.

I have a personal policy. Shit happens. Toilets get clogged, remotes may not always work. If I make the attempt and still unable to make the problem right, I'll give them an adjustment if they ask for it. If the problem DOES get solved, or they don't ever tell me about the problem, then I make no adjustments.

The only time I've ever been moved was when the A/C broke in a hotel room I was in, and the weather was toasty. Maintenance came up and looked at it, and the maintenance guy was the one who said "I might be able to fix it, but it'll take time and I'm not sure..." and he called down to the front desk and asked them to move me. And he helped me move my luggage to a new hotel room. I made sure to stop by the front desk and tell them what a wonderful job he did.

Ooh, it's never occurred to me to let the front desk know that I wouldn't be needing housekeeping at a convention. We're hardly in the room to begin with, so there's no reason to bother having them clean it till we're out.

The only time I can ever remember being moved in a hotel... I gad just stepped into the shower, reached up to adjust the shower head, and it fell off at the touch... and I was disgusting and grimy, and there was no way I'd be able to sleep being dirty... so, we told the front desk, and they moved us.
              Shower on...
              "I call murder on that!"

I second that. People want refunds because the party next door kept them up all night. Well, did you tell anyone about it? No? Then you're SOL. It seems people think that if there's a problem and they keep it secret, that they can get money back later. Yeah, it really doesn't work that way.

I compleatly agree with this, I have had people come up to me and tell me that the room smelled bad and that they could not sleep all night and should have the room free. Its funny how they never think to tell the person at the front desk untill they want to check out.

Oh, my absolute fave is when they tell you that something was wrong (noise, a/c/ heater probs, pick from a long list, really.) and then they stare at you like you are going to literally leap down and lick their shoes, all the while apologizing and declaring that not only is THIS STAY free, but so is every other stay for LIFE!!!!

Haha, yeah. I don't think so. They can look at me all day long. I merely check them out and smile while I hand them the reciept.

Wow, I really should have complimented my friends more. They went up to the front desk and complained about the infestation of carpenter ants immediately. Also, while they weren't pleased with what was done, all they did was not stay there, they didn't fuss throw fits. I'm not sure they know how unusual this is.

Very. Literally every time a guest comes to a desk, desk clerks have asense of "Hell I'm gonna get yelled at.." or "Oh good, someone nice."
