The number was a phone number, and there is a very good chance that the number belonged to the boyfriend, since that is the number that gets put on the order. We all rely on our cellphones to "remember" our friend's numbers for us, plus caller ID, that it's easy to not recognize a friend's number, even though you actually call it regularly.

Though, it really depends on how observant you are. For instance, Android handsets will show you the actual phone number dialed in a small font below the contact's name, both in the call log and during a call. For most people, that's enough to reach recognition familiarity with the number (i.e. you can't recall it, but when you see it you know what it is)
