  • She took it from my child.

Last night we had a little girl find 20 dollars up at the register. The lady behind her said to her "You really should give that to the cashier because somebody probably dropped it and will be missing it later" so she handed it to me and I gave it to my manager to put in lost and found.

About 5 minutes later the mom comes back in with the little girl and came up to my coworker who is a manager and demands that we give them the twenty dollars and said that the little girl hadn't given it to me that "I had ripped it out of her hand". He called the senior manager for the night up and he took her name and number.

After she left he asked me what had happened and I told him he said that he believed me and that he told her that if she wanted the twenty dollars she would have to talk with the store manager because as far as he was consirned I had handled it correctly.

The other manager said that he had believed me to and that he had called the more senior manager up because he was having a hard time not laughing in face for not at least trying to com up with a more beleavable story and that because he new that was something that I would never do.

I'll update this if something comes from it when I go into work tonight. But I hope that it doesn't.

As far as it goes, the $20 bill was inside the store, so if anything it is the store's property. There is no finders-keepers about it, a store is private property so it is very much the same as looking into the back of someone's car in the parking lot finding a $20 bill in the ash tray.

My guess is that someone else told her she should've kept the money, so she went back in to try and get it back. Glad your managers are on your side!

Good grief. If this was a little girl, I assume some guardian was with her when the $20 was first found? I'm all for finders keepers, but damn the gimme mentality nowadays pisses me off.

You see, that's the point where I would have called the police, let them talk to the woman first so that she'll make an official claim against me to law enforcement, had them review the security tapes to show that I had not "Ripped it out of her hand" and then filed a counter complaint against her for making a false accusation against me.

Yeah, I'm vindictive against the stupid of late. I just do not seem to have the patience I used to have (and admittedly that wasn't much back then).

Sorry it's taken me this long to answer but I've been very busy lately. Yes her mother was standing next to her the whole time. Nothing ever came from it my store manager thought that I had handled it correctly and didn't say anything other than that to me about it.
