Yeah I'm short and easily trampled, there's no way I'd even leave the house on Black Friday, let alone go shopping. I usually sleep in with the kiddos, watch some movies, play some games, you know, do all the fun family stuff that my family never did.

Besides, I do all of my non-handmade shopping at Really Big Craft Show. Since we always have 5 or 6 people that want to "work"(really they want to get in free and shop) so we end up taking turns lapping the building and buying gifts from the other vendors. This year I'm planning on stopping by the custom road sign booth and getting a "Caution: Attack Quilter" sign.

I do recall one item I bought that was hyped and highly anticipated: Order of the Phoenix from the Harry Potter series. Was going on sale at midnight on the day of release. There was a line a mile long wrapping around Wally World.

I had not bothered to pre order (I did for the last two in the series, what a waste of time). The night Order of the Phoenix was released, I was working 6p-2a in the ER. When I got off, I swung by Wally World to see what the line was like (it was on my way home, and not out of my way at all). No line.
We did a midnight release for WOTLK. Honestly? It was kinda fun.

We got there about an hour early, all said there was about 20 ppl, including a "feral druid" in a full fursuit, some poor geek freezing his nips off in nothing but green skinpaint and a toy Roman breastplate on his upper body, and several others with light props but not full costumes...cloaks, plastic swords, etc.

I'm looking forward to the Cata release for another unofficial geek party!

Now as for books...same deal as you. Screw the mob scene, plenty of copies will be left over, and they'll be exactly the same tomorrow as right now. Unlike games, where patches can change the whole experience overnight.

I stay home on Black Friday... the Zombies out there are scary and I want NOTHING to do with them! I buy most of my things online anyway. *shrug*

<snip> every register was open (and the store had like 30 of them) <snip>
Pics, or it didn't happen! Sorry, but I had to. You did say it was WM, after all!

I have to work black Friday. At Wal-Mart. As a janitor.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

The only retail black friday I've had to work was in a lotion shop in a mall. All in all, it was nothing compared to big box shops like Yellow Tag or Hellmart.

I will never shop on a black friday. I really can't justify buying a TV for retail price (~700$ for what I want) and I know Big Box Shops will have it on sale for 1/3rd of that, but it just isn't worth it. Maybe around noon i'll trek out and poke my head around, but i don't expect any inventory to be left.

Theres always internet deals. Anyone know if Newegg does a good BF sale or not?

Yeah, I've seen them do the deal thing. Amazon does too. They start like two weeks in advance with different stuff every day.

Last time I went to the mall on Black Friday, one of the ladies at the kiosk actually grabbed and dragged my hand to her booth so she should start filing my thumbnail. I was in so much shock, she was already halfway done before I yanked away. Had a half shiny thumbnail for a few weeks.

Yeah, I never shop black friday now.. or the whole week that contains Christmas(That is 3 days before, Christamas, and 3 days after..regardless what day Christmas actually falls on) I've worked the holidays a couple of times, however, and it is amazing to see people that start out acting decent infected by the suckiness. It is more contagious then the common cold.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

I used to be one of those people who would still be shopping on Christmas Eve but I never started on Black Friday. I've never shopped on Black Friday! Now I don't buy that much anymore. I haven't been in a mall in two years.

As for books, if I want something i pre-order it on Amazon and have it delivered. No hassle. I may not have it as fast but I don't have to fight crowds for it, either.
I still often shop at the last minute. Some years I pay extra shipping to get the gifts to my nieces and nephew on time I loathe shopping and put it off until the absolute last minute.

Amazon was like a gift from the gods to me. I do most of my shopping from home. I go to the mall maybe once a year, and usually because I'm going out with someone else.

I find this part hard to believe. I love having snacks when I read. I did he midnight thing for Deathly Hallows and bought some Starburst and a Coke. I was in heaven once I got home to read.
You'd think that. But that's what the gal told me: most people bought their books and got out. That's what I did, too, and like you I enjoy snacking while I read.

Stayed up until 4am reading before fatigue did me in. Took the book (OftP) to work with me the next night and read a couple of pages between every patient.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

just the stories alone on black friday are enough to keep me away, shopping or working. (that and any other BIG BIG MEGA sale)

i like my mind and body intact, tyvm; going into a store with shopping zombies isn't a way to insure that.
                      look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)
