Apparently, offering an SC a special offer is rude

I wasn't an arsehole about it. I just said "No, thank you." However, I am not one who hides irritation well.

Heck, people think I'm annoyed when I'm not. If I actually am, there's no denying it, even if I am trying to remain neutral.

I wasn't referring to you as such; more the SC. ^^;; I should have specified.

I must admit, for me, that is a huge red button for someone to push.

My grandmother and various aunts (and now my mom is starting in with this) obsessively offering you crap that is right there in front of you and that you have made clear you don't want or need.

It probably does not sound like a big deal. It probably ISN'T a big deal. But it sends me, my sister, and my dad screaming into the night frothing at the mouth.

I thought I was having a freaking flashback.

Dealing with such issues are why I never mention sale items and special deals unless the customer asks me about it. Yes, upper management says we're supposed to tell customers about these things. However, store manager never forces the issue. As a clerk, I refuse to put myself through that nonsense, I don't care what upper management says about it.

As a customer, I don't like constantly being hassled and prodded. I just want to do my shopping in peace, and get on with everything else on my personal agenda. I don't get rude with the clerks about it because I know they are just doing their jobs. If they persist after I've said not interested, I just give them a blank look with no further response.

They say they don't sell or share your info, and personally, I do not believe that.
Most of the time if they do, you have no way of knowing.

There was only one time that I can remember that I knew exactly who had sold my name. I applied for a credit card, and when it arrived, it had my first name spelled as "Micheal", and the wrong middle initial. Next thing I knew, I was getting avalanched by junk mail that had my name misspelled the same way. And judging by some of the outright scams that came in the mail, they didn't care who they sold it to.

Looking back now, I probably should have called in and raised holy hell, or at least cancelled the card and let them know why.

I thought about this thread at Subway, tonight. They're still doing that $5 footlong thing, but you have to buy 2 subs to get it, and the woman behind us wanted 1 footlong and 1 6-inch. She started out a bit confused until the clerk let her know that she'd pay the same either way, and then she accepted the offer, even though she expressed that she probably wouldn't eat that much.

              ^-.-^

I actually used to do little experiments where I'd deliberately misspell my name a certain way, or feed them a wrong name, or something I could track down later if I got junk mail to that name.

I got quite a bit. All of which I could then track to the source.

So now you know why I am so cynical and see liars everywhere.

I don't think the clerk is always lying when she tells me they don't sell it. I think the CLERK has been lied to.

Mike you can still call it in. If it happened pretty recently, you should still be able to do that. That is if you don't really need that card.

My sister-in-law used to do the same thing. I don't know what they told her when she called them on it.

Unfortunately, this was roughly 20 years ago. Not really worth bothering with now, especially since I paid off and cancelled the card years ago.

I don't get pissy about it but I don't like it when I just want one of something and the cashier will say, "Well you can get two of those for a slightly higher price". For instance the pies at McDonalds come to mind. They are like 0.89 for 1 and a dollar for 2.

I've turned down a pretty good two for one offer on chocolate before. I looked rather sadly at my waistline and let the assistant know that if I got two, I'd eat two, and my belt would scream louder in a morning when I was dressing.

Yeah I had one. I had a customer come up with some Thumb drives to buy that had a mail in rebate. We had some clearance ones that were about double the capacity and were cheaper (per unit, which came out to a massive savings), even factoring in the mail in rebate on the more expensive ones.

I informed the customer of this and they passed on it. I asked them if they were sure because the clearance ones were just as reliable and the rebate was not a guarantee (anyone who's dealt with mail in rebates knows the truth of that. The customer still insisted on the more expensive ones. So I ran the sales through (the system was only set up at the time for one rebate form per transaction, so I had to run them separately.) And the customer was happy and left.

Still baffles me to this day why someone would put themselves through that hassle while there was a cheaper, more effective and easier solution practically screaming in their face.

Lol, you didn't come into my petrol station recently, did you? XD Cuz I've heard that a lot from people who don't want the offer.

I've been to a few fuel stations recently, but not been offered chocolate. Would have been funny if it had been me, though
