OK, Dave? First of all, I frickin' LOVE your avatar. I was a big Stargate: Atlantis fan.

Secondly, no worries about hurt feelings on ANYthing. It's cool that they asked about it, it was a valid concern. After all, we're all both sides of the equation: someone's customers and customer service both. They're valid statements, but I have something in regards to the call that wouldn't really work well here: THE RECORDING ITSELF. The pure WAV file. It's hard to translate the TONE of the call in a transcript, but trust me when I say he deserved it, guys. So until we get a system where I can post the recordings of the calls (hrmm.....nah, not yet), just take my word for it.

Just to clarify....querying aspects of a tale is fine, so long as it's done respectfully.

Ferro, in the past Rapscallion (the site owner) has hosted audio files of particularly "good" call-center recordings here on CS, but IIRC it had too much potential to cause trouble for both the member who submitted them and the site. This predates my time as a moderator but it probably had to do with non-disclosure or something along those lines.

I apparently owe the OP an apology.

I apologize. Forgive me for my transgression in your post. It was uncalled for and unnecessary.
        Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
        DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

*/salute* How could I hold a grudge against a Doctor Who fan?

I will apologize as well. The tone didn't come across too well in text form.

I also mention he could call 311 and they would give him the number. He became snotty and said that 311 wasn't good at giving out phone numbers he wanted, so that is why he calls the library.
If he doesn't want to call 311, next time tell him to dial 212-639-9675.

(That's what the phone actually dials if you put in 311 around here. If you're in a different city, substitute your area's equivalent number.)

I personally am a big fan of New York City's 311 switchboard. I had to call to report a busted traffic light. Not one that had gone out, but that was alternately getting stuck on steady yellow, and flipping rapidly through all eight phases at random intervals. Someone could get killed that way... if you see a light turn green, you have no way to know nor any reason to assume that a microsecond before, it was green for cross traffic, then whizzed through Blink-Yellow-All-red-Green in a fraction of a second, while pedestrians are still in the crosswalk...311 routed me to the correct extension very quickly. Otherwise I'd have either had to get home, look up the right number online or in the phone book, and pray nobody got run over in the meantime, or else call the cops and tie up a 911 operator. Thing is, 311 only works in the city; if I'm calling from elsewhere, I have to dial the real phone number, which is why I have that saved in my cell phone.

Edit to add: Speaking of alphanumerics. I remember trying to call someone in the UK about 20 years ago whose number started with letters (like ABC-1234), and kept getting the wrong number. Finally called the AT&T operator and had them place the call. They got the wrong number too. Apparently the phones in the UK have, or had then, a different arrangement on the dial than we here in the USA have.

Also just noticed that the number above spells out 212-NEW-YORK. I never knew that, honestly.
