  • Oh yay

First, I had a good birthday (Sister in law free. Squee!) and got books and things I wanted (Still no DS games, guess I'm gonna go get those on my own LOL)

But I'm at work tonight, so you know you're gonna get a few blurbs.

Apparently, "I can't rent to you cause you're not twenty one." Translates to: "I won't rent to you cause you're <race>". Where the hell did someone get this translator? and How to I turn it back "Normal" And not "Dumb bitch?" cause all she did out the door was say I was racist.

I shouldn't play with trolls, I know but what I said was, "Ma'am, I'm not racist, a bigot, sexist or anything else. I just can't rent to you if you're under twenty one per company policy. You could be bright purple, but if you aren't twenty one, no room."

had a call from JTown , some guy was bitching about us. So we shared a laugh, I asked the guests last name and for fun, checked our DNR.

    His card reads:
Mr. Dumbass *Name changed to protect the dull*
    Evicted for fighting. Underage.
It's in a former desk clerks handwriting.
And from YEARS ago. And he's STILL bitching!
    Get over it!

BHS: You posted a story about delivering papers and going bump in the night. It reminded me of something from this morning. our paper guy, scared me. Usually I can hear him pulling up, but I completely missed it til he HIT the door to spook me. I jumped about 4 feet in the air.

I've never liked that decision. I've seen Military Servicemen and women who were trying to get home on leave being turned away because of that idiocy. If you're in a position where you can potentially bleed and die for your country the least...the VERY least the country can do is let them rack out in a Motel 6.

But that being said, company policy is company policy. If they do not like it (as I do not) they shouldn't blame it on racism, sexism, sexual preference discrimination. Company policy is Company policy. Kvetch at the Corporate office if you want it changed. The clerks on the front line have no power to change the rules and will not risk their employment because you're grumpy about it.
I never lost my faith in humanity. Can't lose what you never had right?

Oh no. I have to say this, if you're under 21 and have military ID, I'll rent to you. You serve more than I do, so here's a room, night!

But the regular 21 EW or precious lil spoiled children.. yeah no. I'm not helping them.

Once, I was checking rooms out on Expedia. Expedia said that you had to be 18 or older, but when I looked at the hotel's site it said 19 or over. I was 18 at the time, so booked through Expedia, printed it out, and hoped for the best. Fortunately, they didn't bat an eye when I checked in. (I met my later-to-become-Hubby that weekend! )

Then again, I looked closer to 24, so maybe they just didn't pay attention to it.

Yes, we enjoy doing that. Aside from getting hit on by drunk guys in wedding dresses, it's one of our few forms of amusement at that hour.

The paper-packers club has a competition for that:

Hotel desk clerk: Best Hang Time ___ (free air/chandelier)
          I am not an a**hole. I am a hemorrhoid. I irritate a**holes!

I agree that a member of the active military member between the ages of 18-21 should be afforded leniency not normally given to others that age... BUT, I have heard some crazy stories of what those same guys like to do to blow off steam when they are on leave. Inkeeper beware!

The prohibition about renting to under-21's may have to do with their legal status to enter into binding contracts, which is what you do when you sign for a room.

Please look up to my first comment. My hotel, like most others, have strict age policies. HOWEVER, alot of those same hotels, will let you in, underage if you have a military id. Not all hotels are bad and I've actually never had an issue with the military.

You definitely might want to look at getting your tanslator fixed. It's even caused one of your police officers to be a total douche because appearantly what he hears you say must make him think you're racist.

To me, my racisim usually comes in the form of deposits. Even though we have a sign stating our deposit policy that was posted way before <person who accuses me of racism> arrived that it still must be racist.

Nope, I'm not racist. I hate all SC's equally.

But! At age 18, you are able to enter into legal contracts. You can have your own car insurance, you can apply for bank loans (I bought my first new car at the age of 19), can enter into service contracts with utility companies, can rent an apartment or a home...

At age 18, you are an adult in the eyes of the law.

When I was 18 and moving from Minnesota (where I graduated High School) to Maryland I was told that there was a law that states that a person can not sleep in his/her car in a rest area. I argued that since no one would rent a hotel room to me, I had no where else to sleep and I had been at that time, on the road for 20 hours.

The officer said that the law was the law and that I had to leave.

So onward I drove until I found a campground. I kind of cheated. They would not rent a site to anyone under 21 but did not post it in their rules that were on the check-in. And since I got there after hours I followed the after hours check-in procedure, filled out the paper, told them where I was camping and went to sleep.

They were upset that I was under age, but what could they do? They never posted an age limit, I had already slept there (in my car...thank god for large back seats), and I had the means to pay for the services rendered.

                    wow, ummm

I just remembered that the times I went to cons in HS I was clearly breaking those rules/laws (as I wasn't even 18). The joys of booking via the web on your 'own' (parent's account, my name) CC I guess...

                      OK, folks.

The OP came here to vent, not to defend herself from other members who don't like her employer's policies.

If you want to discuss whether such policies are fair, take it to fratching.

If you want to complain about something that happened to you at another business, start a thread in Sightings.
