We've been told by Loss Prevention that we absolutely cannot accept an unsigned credit card. That includes cards that say See ID on them without a signature.
I would LOVE it if my store installed such a policy!!!!
Just grin and bear it... you have management back-up on this policy, I hope!?
Teach a SC to fish... and they will whine about you not catching, filleting, frying, and serving it up on a silver platter for them. - EvilEmpryss
Here's our policy at the dealership concerning credit cards:
There's a $2,500 limit on credit card transactions. Occasionally do we have a problem with this, you've got the people who want to get a $20,000 vehicle, and charge it all on their credit card so they can get flyer miles, or bonuses from their CC company or whatever.
It's this way, because after $2,500, we will get charged up to 4% of the balance. So if someone wants to put $10,000 on a credit card, we have to pay the CC company $400. So we tell them, yes, you can put the whole balance on your credit card, but you'll also have to pay us the extra 4%.
That usually stops them.
Can they do it as eight separate transactions? Then everyone's happy. (or make it a *really* short-term loan and charge once per day or something)
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.
If the card is signed, the merchant cannot ask for ID.
I tell customers this ALL THE TIME! Some of them (who DON'T write "See ID" on the back) get mad and rant about how we should ask for ID all the time. And I ALWAYS have said, "Actually, we have rules that Visa sets, and one of them is that if the card is signed without 'See ID,' we absolutely cannot ask for ID."
Just grin and bear it... you have management back-up on this policy, I hope!?
Yeah, we have to keep calling them when people flip out. We've now printed out a copy of our LP guidelines and taped them to every checkout so that we have something to point to when the customers throw a fit.
