Speaking on the price front, I have huge feet and the only places in my city with shoes in my size are expensive as hell. I end up paying at least 75 Euro a pair and have been like that for years.

Maybe the son is in a similar situation. Although, then again, how hard would it be to find a missing pair of black shoes in a men's size 14?

Why am I reminded of Captain Queeg from the Caine Mutiny, who turned his ship upside-down in search of an imaginary wardroom key after some strawberries were stolen?

The shoes were this woman's strawberries

Either the kid is doing it on purpose, or personal responsibility is not trendy these days (the horror, who would've thought).

As for the mother - what a maroon.

The only way to get rid of a person like this is to tell them off, verbally. Otherwise this person is just going to continue harassing the school staff with her idiotic logic.

Why the buggery did she spend over a hundred quid on shoes?

                Priorities - she has none.

This, exactly this. Back when I was at school, a hundred pounds would have bought me loads of school shoes. O_o And losing them would have meant that I would have to pay for new ones.

And here I was thinking that we wouldn't get any more good stories from you since you left the pub. At least they are not as frequent.
From the stories my mom has told me through the years (she's a 40year+ High School Teacher), I knew CRML's stories wouldn't end just because the job changed. After all, all those Sucky Customers and EW's and so forth usually have offspring that have to spend some time (theoretically) in the school system. Just because they're in a school as opposed to a store won't change their behaviour. (If anything, it makes their behaviour worst, at least for most EW's)

Additionally, if she did actually spend that amount on them and wasn't just exaggerating for the sake of dramatics, why on Earth would you spend that kind of money on a kid who all ready lost a shoes in so short a time.

I get that the shoe color is part of the uniform, but surely she could have bought four or five pairs of shoes from a bargain bin with that kind of money. And bargain clothes taken care of can easily pass for the more expensive brands.

I seriously hate people who throw dollar amounts around just to get an edge in the argument. Like the amount of money they spend on something guarantees them a cartblanche in life.

Also, a nice woman??? Yeah, because nice people always scream abuse at other people and accuse them of theft.

I say bring the son into the principal's office and ask a few pointed questions. Bet the "lost" shoes mysteriously turn up soon after.

I was 15 once, many years ago & I always knew where my shoes (boots actually) were.

OT, but it's kinda funny you'd mention this. I was just listening to a story spoken by a church leader of the church I belong to. He did exactly this when he was 9 or 10.

Horrible ... only reason for getting a kid shoes that expensive is if they have orthopedic issues that require them.

Hell, I need shoes with room in the foot box for orthotics, and my pod gave me a list of new balance shoes that work that are all well under $100. I have exactly one pair of expensive shoes, they are dress shoes for going to things like weddings, funerals, Navy Ball or other formals.

I bought some very nice, rugged, comfortable, and even formal looking shoes a few months back. Cost me $40 USD. They're awesome. They're formal looking enough to wear with a suit but comfortable enough that they wear like tennis shoes.

Same basic issue here, but in Men's US Size 16EEEE Wide. I wore a size 13 when I *was* 13, and many stores' selection of those are slim to none >_<

Even so, with having to overpay for a slightly larger boat for my foot for decades now, I have managed to get through with only ONE pair that cost me more than $100 -- and that's a pair of good, rugged waterproof boots that I've had for something like four years now, and have yet to require so much as a re-sole (granted, I don't wear them every day...).

One more vote for the kid being either irresponsible or just selling the damn things, and one more vote for the mom just being stupid by not adequately describing the footwear in question. ("Description, please" "They're black shoes" "They're all black shoes" "They go on his feet" " Please be more specific, that's really not telling us anything useful" "What, are you people stupid?! You should have found them by now! Black shoes! What more information could you possibly need?!"....)

                                =====================

Tho, on a side note, just to lighten things up --

Back when I was in HS, money was...well, let's just say it was an issue. Some players on a local sports team had a little (un-publicised) program set up where they would donate their used "practice shoes" to youths who needed a little extra hand (or foot... -- most of the time, any given pair would be used for less than a week; don't worry, they would have them properly cleaned/sanitized first - not that anyone would have cared )...

As it happens, I was the beneficiary of one such program, more than once, and always from the same player who also happened to wear size 16HOLYCRAPTHATSBIG shoes. I was recently able to get a jersey bearing this (now-retired) player's name and number, and I'll be wearing it for every game I can, in his honor. That, and I consider it a small amount of Karma that I wanted to repay, in gratitude for his kindness ^_^
