  • Apparently I need to grow up...

...for not giving a woman £2 straight out of the till I am still fuming about this.

Yesterday, an old woman and her daughter came through my line. Their total was £17 - the older woman gave me a £10 and then started shuffling in her pocket for more money, so I stopped and waited. Then she held out another £10 note while her daughter was holding out a £5, so I took the £10 note in order to have £20 to go into the till (this is important). I typed £20 into the till and gave her the £3 change back. Then this happened:

SC: How much did it come to?

Me: £17, so I gave you £3 back.

SC: MY MOTHER GAVE YOU A £2 COIN, SHE NEEDS £5 BACK NOT 3!

Me: No, she gave me two £10 notes, I remember because I didn't take your £5 as it would not have been enough to cover the total.

SC: SHE GAVE YOU £2 I SAW IT COME OUT OF HER POCKET

Mother: Yes, I did I remember

Me: No you didn't, but I will have a manager come and perform a till check for you if you want.

SC: I'm not standing here arguing with you over £2...GROW UP!

She stormed off, and guess what? My till was correct to the last penny at the end of my shift

    Bitch.

Then what have you been doing for the last two minutes?

Personally, I think you should have given her two pounds. One for each of them.

Heh. You called their bluff, by volunteering for a register check, and they knew they were beaten.

Yeah sounds like they were trying to scam you. And when it didn't work they got mad. If they really thought that you didnt give back enough they would have waited for your till to be counted.
Take this job and shove it. I ain't workin here no more.

Grow up, huh? Too bad they didn't take their own advice.

Precisely! As soon as I offered to have a till check she decided she "wasn't going to argue with me over £2"

That was what ticked me off the most. It's bad enough being called a liar, but then being spoken to like that by a complete hypocrite?

These are one of the types of people that I love, because most of them have suddenly not found the time to stand there and wait for the register checks once a manager is called up to do so.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

Similar happened to me once when I was working as an attendant at a laundry (making change and watching TV for a living)
VERY big man claimed to have given a 20 when he gave a 10. Quick till check showed even; however he was bveing very aggressive, so I gave him a 10 to make him go away. Explained to boss next morning and she knew him based on description. Not only did she put the 10 back in my bag (we all had our own), she filed a No Trespass order with the local PD

This is the part that pissed me off the most. Bitch.

I'm actually glad to read stories like this where the cashier offers a drawer count. It's a nice new tool I have against the scammers, while protectiong the legit.

Last week I had an incident where the customer claimed I didn't hand him his change back. I offer to count my drawer. He politely waits. Turns out I was over by the change I owed him.

Sounds like the scammers need to grow up. That's not even a quality insult.

That's how you know it's legit; he politely waited instead of throwing a tantrum and stomping out.

The scammers throw the tantrums to try to embarrass you into giving in to them. When they know you're on to them, they huff and puff to try to make it look like you're the bad guy. Good for you for not giving in to them.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
