Wish I was great at art, or stories, or comics, or something to warrent fangirls. That be pretty sweat life really. I don't get why people hate it so much. Bunch of people love you for what your great at? What's so bad about that. Oi.
But you have minions already! That in of itself is pretty cool.

On another note, not convention related at all but minion related in a different way. I just joined a local grange....and as such have helped out at stuff going on in the grange hall. I realize now that I"m the Master of the grange's minion It's totally a case of "can you go get that" "Can you run this errand" "Can you clean this up and put these things back and etc etc".

    Minion...pure and simple

I know a few people that would fit this category.... and I've run across most of them when either working as a guest liaison/handler at a convention or working guest security.

Guests are people too. And some of them really don't want to deal with screaming obsessive fans between panels/shows/etc.

My favorite was one guy who kept hanging around a friend of mine who was the Webcomic GoH at a convention. The guy wasn't mean or creepy... he just was already lurking... watching... so it got to me. Finally I asked him nicely to go away and let the guest have some peace.

The guy's response? "But YOU'RE always with him!" Mine? "Yeah, but that's because I'm his handler at this convention and it's my JOB to be with him and make sure he's ok!" Byebye now!

Hey, if you are ever at San Diego Comic Con and need a safe place to take a breather, look me up. My wife's on the committee, I can get you to a private area to unwind (possibly her hotel room.) Or there's always "hanging around in gaming" -- the overflow hotel's gaming rooms are usually pretty peaceful (they are run by my wife) so they are also a good place to go unwind, play a few games (not just RPG's, there are traditional board and card games also!)

I can't understand that. I mean, here is this guy, I love his imagination, I look forward to his strip every day, he make my life a brighter place. Therefore I'll harass him and his helpers at the con!
What do they think will happen? At the very least the artist may stop going to cons. He may even stop the strip.
People like that don't think that far ahead, or think things through. I can imagine how aggrivating that is, to not even be able to eat lunch or use the bathroom without people hanging onto you like a bunch of limpets.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

              That's the ticket.

I'm a fairly hardcore geek, and many of my friends are also. Fortunately, most of us are also really damn nice people (or at least shy as heck). That said, I have a couple associates (I wouldn't call them friends) that do this. It really comes down to the fact that people with this type of obsessive personality just don't think about other people's feelings, or assume that because they think they would enjoy it that other people would as well.

Really the only person I make a point of seeing at any con I can is Jennie Breeden (and now you know why I read this board), but I'm such a huge dork that I rarely even manage to work up the nerve to say hello :P. All of the comics I have from her were bought by my GF for me, as she knows I'm a total dork. The people in the OPs post are part of the reason WHY I tend to be horribly shy about celebrities of any ilk, I feel bad for putting my self forward like that (yes, I know, not rational, but meh).

ah ha! I was assuming it was a specific fandom term I didn't know.

                      Thanks

Must admit, I once amended my travel plans from the UK to Canadalandialand to take in a convention in the US she was attending as a surprise (to both of us). Worth the trip.
