  • Been too busy to post during the holidays

December is our busiest month as I'm sure it is for most charities. Not too much suck which surprised me other than the usual "It's YOUR fault the cards I requested the day before Christmas didn't get to the recipients until after Christmas" crap.

One story that still has me and my dept. laughing though concerns our biggest corporate donor, a huge dept. store that sounds like "Stacy's".
Every holiday season they run an event wherby if you drop off your letter to Santa at one of their stores, they donate $1.00 to us. Pretty simple to understand? Not to this lady.
I received an e-mail from her, in broken English, letting us know that she dropped off her letter but the people at "Stacy's" did not give HER her dollar. I explained to her how the deal works, that the $1.00 is donated to US after she drops off her letter. I had to explain the same thing 4 MORE TIMES for each of her sunsequent e-mails. Finally she stopped sending them and I figured she finally got the message or got tired of typing.

    Nope.

The following week I received a LETTER from her in the mail asking US to send her HER dollar since Stacy's wouldn't! Just to make it clear, she spent .44 cents on a stamp to ask us to send her $1.00!!!

I was tempted to send her a picture of Santa and a photocopy of a dollar bill but figured that would start something else.

The letter is now hanging on my cube wall.

Yep. The holidays are the gift that keeps on giving.

You really don't want to do that, because in theory she could get you arrested for making counterfeit money AND passing it along.

If it's reduced to less than 2/3 size (might be 3/4, but I'm erring on the side of caution) or blown up to at least 150% then it'll conform to federal regulations.

You should send her some banannas. Since she clearly is.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

Write her back, telling her that she needs to snail mail, to you registered, a notarized copy of her request, for you to consider her request to receive her dollar "back."

Write to her that, in order for you to process her request, you need $1000 in unmarked, non-serialized one-dollar bills addressed to you....

See, she's her own favorite charity, so she figured she's entitled to that dollar.
