1) DEMAND video recording equipment to be fitted my your employers - that would have stopped the old bag in her tracks.
2) IF you're in a union, ask them for help with sorting this out bat out (legally). Despite the USAs' distrust of them (not a surprise, given all the power employers have there & the power they can bring to shape opinions), I've had only positive encounters when I've had to use mine with regard to crappy employers/situations.

its a small town. There is onlz 3 non private cameras in town which cover the area of high st which has all the pubs in

That lady should get in a llllllllloooooooooooooot of trouble with the police for making a false statement, however since they never seemed to look at your story without bias it seems as though nothing would happen. I'm betting that you could probably sue her for emotional distress and other bs based on the fact that her story is bull and it effected your home/work life you could have lost your jobs due to her utter mouth of sh*t.

Not sure where you live, but the case against you reeks of BS and I have no idea why it went as far as it did.
What a complete waste of court time and money over a 20p gate fee and an alleged assault with what appears to be absolutely no proof at all except hearsay and one person's word against another.

I'm not familiar with UK law, of course, but I have to wonder at them taking a statement from someone who didn't actually see anything, but only had it related to them second hand by the alleged victim, and then using it in court.
Pretty damn shoddy police work there.

You must have had pretty much the worst damn lawyer in all the UK for things to have progressed as they did.
For the Crown to have pushed it all forward as well, it must have been a slow week for them.

the oddest thing is her lack of injury; elderly people tend to bruise easily (due to weakening in the blood vessels) and yet she wasn't expected to prove actual harm.

Forgot to mention as well

On friday we had our line manager down who called everyone in for a meeting.

After this incident it has been decided that if anyone does not want to pay...we cant make them and are to let them do whatever they want without charge.......

We had to sign a sheet with our names on saying we had been told this and agreed to follow the instructions we were just given

Hell maybe i will just leave the place unlocked from now on and go to sleep....i mean its not like i can make them pay or anything.....

She waited over a week to go forward with anything. It could be that she was biding her time on the off chance you did have security cameras, I doubt most hold that much memory.

I also hope things get better with your family, and counselling sounds like it may be needed, if only to have a safe (as in mental space, not physically) environment to explore why your wife thinks you could be capable of that, if you haven't worked that out between yourselves yet. If she thinks you're capable of being physically harmful to an elderly person, it's not a far leap from her thinking her own or your kids' safety is in question, and that is not a foundation for a healthy relationship (this has probably all gone through your head, I just wanted to voice the concerns I saw).
