  • Customer tells me to go fuck myself simply cause I'm doing my job

Before we get started, no complaining about high concession prices please. Stick to the story
A couple of days ago I was ticket taker. We strictly enforce our no outside food and drink policy, although we allow water to come in and that's it. This guy and his wife come in with a drink from the bookstore across from us.
Me: I'm sorry sir, we can't allow outside food and drinks in the theatre.
SC: Oh, this is bullshit. We just bought it.
    Me: Sorry.
Him and his wife try to drink them fast but from what I gathered they threw the drinks away with some left in them. I do the right thing by being polite and nice to him, although maybe I shouldn't have said anything, and I would've given him the cold shoulder if I had known what was coming next.
    Me: Enjoy your show sir.
    SC: Fuck you.
I went to tell a supervisor, and he said there was nothing we could do. I complained to a manager next, who had said if he was standing there and had heard him, he would've done something. Good thing I wasn't on the clock, I'd have let the goddam motherfucker have it. If I were a manager I would've thrown him out.
God I fucking hate customers who think they can act any way they want and just insult us like that. People like that don't deserve customer service once they cross the line like that. Nowhere does it say that any employee has to put up with that kind of abuse.
Also for the people in charge, for them to say there is nothing they can do, BULLSHIT!!! Employees should not have to put up with crap like that at all, and management should take some sort of action. I am pretty pissed about this knowing that this fucking asshole got away with it. I absolutely fucking hate spineless managers who won't say or do anything about it.

Ugh. This is wrong on so many levels. I'm sorry you deal with these morons and managers that won't grow a spine. It's not like theater policies like this are a new thing, either, so people shouldn't act so surprised and bitchy about it. Yours is pretty lenient allowing water in, so people should just be grateful for that.

Plus side: After chugging those drinks, they probably had to pee really bad before the movie was over.

Well, the bottom line is this: you just work there. You don't make the rules. It's simply your job to enforce them.

If customers don't like that, they don't have to patronize the theatre. Or, they can try a different level of suckiness and simply hide the stuff. Easy to do in winter

There's no need for anybody to be rude about it.

He's a tosser. There was no cause for him to swear at you like that. If its any consolation, he wasn't swearing at YOU personally, he was swearing at the stupid rule (as he saw it), and you just happened to be the poor person standing there.

There's a lot of places now that have notices displayed saying they won't tolerate abuse of employees. I've seen them in shops, building societies, takeaway places etc. Even at the dental practice I go to, there's a sign in reception warning that anybody being abusive to staff will be removed from the registers and will not be treated again by anyone in that practice.

Wish more places would do that.

Now, the guy was an asshole for cursing at you, no questions asked. But...

I can sort of understand why your manager didn't want to do anything about it. He didn't hear it himself, from your story I concluded you had no witnesses, so if the couple had decided to raise a stink, it'd have been their words against yours about what happened - two against one. And then what? You can just bet an asshole like that would've just as easily made something up to complain to Corporate about, putting both you and your manager in trouble.

It's not necessarily being spineless; it's about knowing which battles you can win, and which battles you can't.

What did the morons think was going to happen; they obviously knew they were going to the movies, so why buy something right before they go in? Douchenuts.

I've never heard of a theater that lets you bring in anything from outside, so yours is an exception letting them bring in water. He should really have known that outside drinks aren't allowed. But of course, he's "special" so he shouldn't have to abide by the rules.

Hey now, there are plenty of ways to throw that back in their face without getting in trouble. "I'm sorry, sir, but you aren't my type" comes to mind...

What kills me is this isn't some weird, random policy you guys just pulled out of your arses- it's been standard fare for YEARS to not allow outside food. They should have known better! Shame on him!

If there wasn't anyone else around, I'd respond in a nice cheery manner as if life was rainbows and kittens and say, "Fuck you, too."

                            And I'd wave.

The SC isn't mad at you for the policy. The SC is mad at you because he got caught and someone called him out on his blatent policy breaking.
