Guest: Dave, this villa I want rents for a lot more than I paid last year. I need you to honor last year's rate

Me: unfortunately, I cant

Guest: correction, you can and you will

Me: no ma'am, because the owner can get that rate

Guest: I dont give a shit what the owner can get. He is getting last year's rate from me.

Me: no ma'am

Guest: well can you call him on my behalf

Me: only if it is within two weeks of arrival

Guest: well can you promise not to rent it to anyone else until then? (this is August by the way)

Me: no ma'am

Guest: well then I need you to call him and tell him I will pay last year's rate

Me: I cant do that

Guest: no, I COMMAND you to call that owner. I have been patient as I am going to be with you.

Me: Someone else might book it at full rate

Guest: I am not someone else. I told you what I am paying so lets book at now at the agreed upon discount

Me: I didnt say I was giving you a discount

Guest: but you are going to give it to me because I am not paying full price

Me: well then you cant rent the place

She lets out this really loud scream and screams, "you fucking bastard. Youve ruined my vacation. I hope youre happy" she then starts crying and saying she is too upset to talk any more

If I were the owner, and I got a call about a crazy witch like this, I might say,

"Sure you can give her a discount . . . IF you are planning to make up the shortfall. I expect to get the going rate."

Take it as a sign of the economy slowly turning around, owners can finally get a higher market rate for their rooms. So guess what, they no longer have to rent at a loss just to get a pittance for their rooms. Besides, I guarantee the owners taxes and costs didn't go down since last year.

I work in health insurance. Pretty much everything we do is regulated by contracts, regulation & state/federal laws. Can't just skirt around the HIPAA privacy laws just 'cause I feel like it.
