didn't the woman leave you a tip on the first transaction, Jester? It's still monumentally unfair, but at least that tip could sort of offset what you had to pay out

Yes, she left me a nominal tip. On the first transaction. Which was completely separate from the second one. Just as the rest of my customer base also left me tips on THEIR bills. In the end, did I make money? Yes. Would I have made eight dollars plus a tip more? Also yes. So no, her first tip didn't "offset" the second transaction any more than any of the other tips I got that day.
But, since she DID pay and DID tip, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and only cursed her fleabitten dirtbag of a date.

Well, I didn't mean that it would make up for it, but at least she was nice and honest, etc... I'll shut up now.
Just wondering... if she paid by credit card, is it not possibleto give the records over to the police and allow them to track down the thief?
Yes and no.
See, SHE paid by credit card. Then HE started a tab, and that tab was the one they walked out on. So, not knowing their relationship, we really can't go after HER for what HE did.
Besides, it is not worth it to me, the establishment, or the police to do all this over what amounts to $13. I like the relationship I have with the police in this town, frankly, and don't want to irritate them with something like this. Also, I personally find it rather annoying when someone makes the police use their time and resources for something so small, so I am not about to be one of those very people.
I will just curse the SC's silently in my head, and aloud on this site, and move on with my life.

I've had the occasional person weasel out of their hotel bill, but when it comes to actual curses, the only dealings I have with those come from the time when I worked at the bookstore and a wannabe teenage witch (a male teenage witch at that), tried levelling a curse at me when I asked him if he needed help as he browsed through the New Age books.
