  • Trouble with crackers

My store had a promotion this week where you get two free boxes of NB (abbreviation for certain brand name) crackers if you buy 4 12 packs of Coke. One woman I had bought the cokes but did not get any of the crackers so I let her know they she can get them. So she goes to the isle and gets 1 box that is part of the promotion and a box that is not. I tell her she can't get the 1 (because it was a family size and not regular size) so she goes back to get a replacement. This is where the suckiness begins.

I see her go into the aisle and then she takes her sweet time to come back. I go closer to where she is to see what's taking her and I see her standing in front of the aisle holding two boxes instead of 1 (again, one of her boxes was fine). She asks me which one she can get, and I tell her the one she's holding in her left hand. However, she comes back with TWO boxes (but they're at least both allowed with the promotion this time). I ask her which one of the two she brought back she wants, and takes about two minutes mulling it over and claiming that I told her both boxes she had weren't good before finally making a decision. Three people left my line in the process (although for most of the time another register with no line was open).

I think that if I had been serving her, I wouldn't have been able to resist handing her the boxes at the end and saying out loud "Your crackers, madam" (a la The Two Ronnies)

Why are people like her allowed in public unsupervised?
Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything, what became of subtlety?

I don't think you'll get many applicants for THAT kind of supervisory position, honestly.
