It was a pathetic attempt at getting a discount. But those rentals will go fast if its during the right season so they have no incentive to offer a discount. These people will not learn that the world doesnt revolve around them.

Dave, don't take this personally, but could there be something in your tone that is irritating all these callers of yours? Because the words you say seem perfectly fine, and I can't figure out why these callers get so upset with you. Sure, some of them are going to be assholes by birth, but this many? Is it possible your tone is snarkier than you realize?

Another thought is that I'm glad I tend bar--I always have the threat of "I control your booze" to fall back on.

I do so enjoy doing that.

It confuses and/or enrages them, to the point where they're not sure how to respond. I usually get two reactions:

1) Meekly fleeing the feel of battle because their tactics have utterly failed.
2) Becoming furiously enraged and spewing strings of obscenities, at which point I inform them I am not able to help them if they do not want to remain civil and then hang up on them.

I do the same thing when someone makes a "I just made that $100 bill! Hardy har har" joke, so I guess I get his intentions.

I like that he keeps his format similar too, so we can just enjoy the customer suck. And I do. Oh, I do.

I agree. Many people call in looking for a fight from the get go, and when you don't give them what they want, it pisses them off even more.
