The leading cause of death in Washington State for adults age 27-54 is accidental overdose of prescription medication, mostly narcotics like OxyContin; often in combination with benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax etc) and/or alcohol. Think Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith, etc. The state and the feds are both tightening restrictions on narcotic prescriptions quite severely.

Here in Victoria, and to my understanding, also Vancouver and probably all of BC, pharmacies no longer keep any ocycontin on hand.

You have to take in your script, they order only as much as needed for however many scripts they got that particular day. and fill the scripts the next day.
It's also kept in a safe between the time it arrives and the time the patient comes in to pick it up.

I recall reading an aritcle a few months ago that oxycontin has become the drug of choice among organized crime, and these changes were brought in as a result of a huge number of pharmacy robberies.
