Quoth chainedbarista View Postit is a health hazard; rat and mouse urine can carry leptospirosis, which can be deadly if it enters the body.

Very rarely, a human can get 'kennel cough' (bordetella) from a dog.
We share a great many parasites with our companion animals - not just fleas and ticks, but fungi, worms and others. Fortunately, standard parasite control practices keep us all healthy.
My point is that zoonotic illness isn't a good primary reason for deciding whether an animal species is suitable as a pet. (There's plenty of other reasons, though!)Seshat's self-help guide:
1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

And I'll bet you had no security deposit to seize either. I'd be nice to go after whoever put up the money. If I were to get hit with a huge cleanup/replacement bill after paying for these losers I would go municipal on their tails!
Please keep us updated, and I'm glad to hear a perma-ban was issued (assuming it's enforced).
