  • A coworker stole from me today or I learned my lesson

So there is a custodian that comes in everyday and buys a energy drink. We talk everyday for at least 15 mins about stupid shit and jobs and such. Well today she came in and got a energy drink, she started looking for money and then said shit I forgot my money downstairs in my locker. And what she asked next I knew better,I don't know why I said yes. She asked can I take it now and come right back to pay, I need to go to my locker. So she did and of fricking course my boss came by and seen this shit. So I got yelled at even after I told my boss what she said. The boss said well I guarantee she won't come back.
So I waited and waited and no sight of her. Shes so stupid ,she works in custodian, she also works 6 days a week, so I can find real easy. So tomorrow I'm gonna confront her and I want the damn money. But today I learned a lesson.

is there an hr dept where you work? if so, report her for the theft and let them handle it; a personal confrontation can get ugly and out of control quick.
    look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

Don't confront her, but charge her for the energy drink on top of whatever the next time she comes in. Otherwise, ban her and report her to her supervisors.

I had someone steal from me at my job too. Interestingly enough, in my case, it was also one of the cleaning staff. Unfortunately, I couldn't prove anything.

It happened in the fitness center at my job. It's a really good deal, $60 a year. You can't beat that. A lot of places charge more than that a month. It would be nice if they had a pool, but what are you gonna do?

Anyway, for the first few months that I was a member, I never even thought to bring in a lock to put on the locker I was using. I went into the locker room to get changed for my workout, and there was another guy in there, who was doing some cleaning. Looking back now, he seemed a bit shifty, but at the time I didn't think anything of it. I changed my clothes, did my workout, came back, showered, and changed back into my regular clothes.

From there, I met some friends at the bar for karaoke. When I went to pay my tab at the end of the night, all my cash was gone. What really sucks is that I had over $50 in there. Normally, I don't carry that much, but someone had just repaid some money they owed me.

Naturally, I was pissed off and very upset. Luckily, one of my other friends paid my tab for me, and then took me outside and walked me around the block a few times until I calmed down.

I thought back to the shifty guy in the locker room, and I was pretty sure it was him. He was in the locker room when I changed clothes, and saw me put them in an unlocked locker. He had to know I'd be gone for awhile, and it would only take a minute to take my money. Like I said, I couldn't prove anything. He only took the cash, not the plastic, so even if I would have figured it out, and even if they found my money in his wallet, I couldn't have proven that it was mine and not his. I did, however, file a report with security to let them know a theft had happened, and on the off-chance they'd catch the guy. But they never did.

A week later, I ran into the same guy in the locker room. I learned my lesson, I brought a lock along this time, as I've done every time since. Somehow we got into a conversation, and I casually mentioned that someone had stolen my money, and went into all the graphic and gory detail about what I'd do if I ever caught the bastard who did it. I think I used the words "cut off his hands with a fucking chainsaw." He looked a little pale, and more than a bit nervous after that. Interestingly enough, I never saw him again after that.

He probably wasn't even a member. Just went in to rob people. A lock may stop someone like that, and it may not. There was a report on TV once about a woman who did that at women's health clubs. Took her maybe 10 minutes tops, to cut off locks with bolt cutters and steal purses out of all the lockers, pack them in a gym bag and take off. She was eventually caught but it took a while.

I'm sure the mods here will agree that we don't condone violence on this site. But there's nothing against TALKING about violence, as long as it isn't in the actual plans....and it had the desired result, an undesired element is gone from the gym.

Well done. Sorry about the $50.

I say lay on a guilt trip and mention your boss saw it. That'll make her pay up quick.

I remember when I worked in a hotel restaurant and some employees kept their belongings in lockers. A server had a cup full of change in a padlocked locker and someone managed to break in and steal the cup of change. After much howling and distasteful descriptions of what the server would do once the thief was found, the cup magically reappeared.

Funny thing about that is I actually have a very weak stomach. If I was watching a movie with a scene like what I threatened, I would have to look away. But when I get pissed off like that, you do not want to be around.

A couple years later, someone a couple of desks over was a victim, but it was partly his own stupidity. Not that leaving my wallet in an unlocked locker wasn't stupid, but this was even worse.

Sometimes people at my job get involved in fundraisers, for their church, their kids' school, a charity, etc. Some of these are candy sales, with the box on someone's desk or on the table in the common area of our department, with an envelope for the money. As far as I know, people in my department have been able to be trusted to leave the proper amount of money in the envelope, making change if they need to, and taking only the candy they've paid for.

Most people take the box home or lock it up in the desk when they leave for the day. But this one guy decided to leave it out on his desk over the weekend, out in the open, where anyone could get it. And he was quite surprised and angry when he came in Monday morning and found both the candy and the money gone. I didn't think he was ever going to stop yelling about it.

I'm going to give the custodean the benefit of the doubt. She might have gone downstairs and forgot she didn't pay for it. Or she started to do her job and forgot. I forget things, like when I go to a floor to get something and when I get there I just draw a blank. But I equally think the custodian might be a douche and just put on an act of not bringing money, because she knew she was going to rip you off.

At work, though, bunch of my cws borrow money from me (or promise to do something for me) and they don't pay back. Not because they are purposefully ripping me off, but because they honestly forgot.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.
