Around here, being uninsured can cause you to be ticketed, your car registration revoked and your license revoked. Which sounds mighty scary except that only matters if they pull you over for something.

On Parking Wars, set in Detriot and Philly (depending on the episode), their parking enforcement impound lots will not release a vehicle without current insurance. Safe to assume that Michigan and Pennsylvania require insurance.

PA does require insurance. If you drop your auto insurance, you're supposed to send in the plates to PennDOT. But, like others have said, no police officers come to the door to collect them. Driving without insurance is illegal here--get caught, and you can get hefty fines and possible jail time. Plus, you open yourself up to a lawsuit if you hit someone, no matter how minor the damages or injuries.

If she stopped paying her insurance money and because of that went uncovered for a period of time, should she even be able to retroactively pay for that period of time?
The way all of my my insurance has been, I've been in what amounts to an annual contract that is paid out in monthly sums, but the contract is for the whole year.

If I fail to make a payment, I am in breach of contract, at which point I am given a grace period to repair the breach or my coverage will lapse. During the time that my coverage is lapsed, I have no insurance and am vulnerable. If I choose to repair the breach after that time, I still owe the full amount on the contract despite not actually receiving coverage for some period.

Contracts are so much fun. </sarcasm>

The situation can be summed up thusly. The woman was involved in an auto-accident last year in which she was found to be at-fault. At the time of the accident, she had no insurance coverage due to NON-PAYMENT of her insurance bill. Now she's being taken to court to recover the damages she caused, and is pretty much up shit creek without a paddle.
lol.....we offer travel insurance to cover emergency cancellation within the cancellation period and many times, we have a guest have an emergency that didnt buy travel insurance call to cancel and get mad if they cant get a refund. One lady told me her reason for not buying it was "I thought you guys would go ahead and eat it since we had an emergeny"

And the answer to that is, "Well you know what 'thought' did, don't you?"

(For those who don't know this saying, the next line is 'stuck a feather up its b*m and 'thought' it was a chicken')
