Another one today. SC is an older man, sort of heavyset, with cattbutt face and grey hair.

SC: So when are gas prices going up again? Today?!
    ME: No, not today.
    SC: Well when?
ME: I'm sorry, they don't tell me those things.
SC: **harumphs** They should! **stomps out of the store**

**sigh** Look, I don't control the gas prices or when they change. Stop treating me like shit because of them!!

Because you've got a super-secret red phone hidden under the counter for the next Middle Eastern country to fall into insurrection and civil war to call you.

Sure gas prices suck but those SC's really need to take them selves to the proctologist for a cranial rectal extraction for barraging the poor clerk over shit they have no control over! If anybody thinks gas is expensive, try diesel. Diesel for SO is around $3.90 a gallon while gas is around $3.75!

I remember when diesel was much cheaper than gas. That was a long time ago, though.

The explanation I've heard is that diesel and home heating oil are about the same thing (diesel's filtered better, is all). In the winter there's more demand for the fuel oil, so the refineries make more of that and less diesel, therefore the price of the latter goes up.

Well, the universe seems more normal now, as KW gas prices seem to be more than most people's on this thread again....they are up to $3.79 for the low end stuff last I looked.

what do you have to shell out for health care in Key West?
            Frankly, I don't know, as I don't have any.

He doesn't have to shell out anything if he doesn't want to. We don't have to have health insurance in the US.
No, I don't have to have it. But I sure would like it. Sadly, it is not currently a feasible option for me. Not a good thing for a guy in his forties, no matter how great of health I might be in.

This is why the US has, until recently, had the cheapest gas in the world outside of the Middle East (and possibly Alaska, which can provide its own oil.)
The thing about Alaskan oil is that those in Alaska don't use it. They have no refineries. All that Alaskan oil gets shipped out of state, and all their gas products get shipped in.

According to this web site, Alaskan gas prices for regular vary from $3.37 to $4.12, premium is $3.55 to $4.30, and diesel $3.59 to $4.51.

What is good about Alaskan oil is the state shares the oil profits with the Alaskan citizens.

Saw a news report saying gas could be around $3.70 during spring, and $4 or more for summer. Joy. More complaints for me to endure! **clutches onto the two days off I'm currently enjoying as if my life depended on it**

Tell me about it. I'm in the same age group and I just got some through my employer last September.

Was a hell of thing not only not having insurance, but not having a job when I got a lovely case of shingles on my face last June.

Well..Some of us can't cram ourselves into a Pruis without a bottle of Vaseline and a running start.
Yeah, but something like a Cooper will get twice the mileage of an F-150, with the Prius beating the Cooper by half again as much. (15>30>45, essentially)

I complain about gas prices, but not to clerks. After all, they have to pay the same outrageous prices I do. I have to buy gas, gas prices suck, so I budget to pay too much for gas.

Thank you, Andara. You are the type of customer I would like to have in my store. I think people have calmed down lately, but there have been a few saying how ridiculous prices are, and "omg that cost me $60/$70/whatever amount!" but nothing too bad recently. Also, drunkenwildmage, you have no idea how hard that Prius comment made me laugh!
